Breaker in panel, switch with lightning bolt symbol usually near sink, and possible switch at back of water heater, as well as outside with small clip through it are usual locations and dependent on make and model. May use one, some or all.

Suburban water heaters have a small black switch to the lower left on the front of the water heater.

It's often kind of hidden behind the gas line and hard to see but it's there. Also sometimes it has a clip in the switch to keep it from being accidentally turned on when the tank is empty.

1988 Ford Jamboree no power to the water pump & hot water heater

If you have more than one switch to turn the pump on/off, it most likely has a multiplex electric controller. This may be bad and need replacing. The water heater should have a fuse in house fuse panel so check it. If the fuse is good, then check for 12v in at the water heater.

How to turn on water heater

This might not be much help, without more details, but there should be a valve inside the water heater panel (outside) you can open. Open the valve at the main propane tank also.

Make sure the water tank is FULL before you fire it up. There should be a switch inside the coach somewhere to turn it on.

If it doesn't ignite immediately, you probably have air in the lines. Light the stove and let it burn for a minute, then try the hot water tank again. Might take a few tries to get it fired up.

How to turn up the hot water heater

Unfortunately most RV hot water heaters DO NOT have a heat adjustment on them. Remember it is only (usually) a 6 gallon tank. The best suggestion I to use less cold water when mixing the water and remember to shut off the water in between soaping up and rinsing off. Google "navy showers" and you should find more info!

Where do I find hot water bypass valve on a 1988 ford econoline rv

Todd, hot water by-pass valves are usually installed behind the water heater. There are probably 3 valves that need to be operated.
1. - Close the cold water valve TO the water heater.
2. - Close the hot water valve FROM the water heater.
3. - Open the by-pass valve. It's the one between the other two.

How do I switch my hot water from propane to electric?

If the water heater is dual fuel (elec/LP) and it is manufactured by Suburban you will need to go outside to the access door of the water heater. Once you have opened the access door to the lower left below and behind the gas valve/burner tube you will see a small black switch labeled on/off. Switch that to on for electric operation. and then you may turn off the LP switch located inside the unit. If it is an Atwood then inside the unit you should have a switch panel with two switches, one for LP and the other for electric. The panel may be by itself or the switches may be located on your tank level monitor panel.

Hot waterer tank goes on but no hot water

Water heater must be FULL of water first. Be sure to bleed all air out of hot water lines all throughout the unit. Check water in heater by purging the PT valve at the top. (The one with the little lever). If no water comes out, there is no water in the heater. You can't heat water is there's none in it to heat!

Electronic ignition hot water heater (6gal) lights but wont get water hot. The red light inside my RV goes off and back on after about 3 minutes. When I checked the unit outside, the pilot is lt, but not...

check to see if setiment has settled on the pilot....blow it out with air if it has. This issue comes up often with water heaters and rv refers. If that is not the problem and the pilot remains lit, but never increases when the thermostat is turned up, you probably need a new gas valve/thermostat.
