Thanks, but bike has only 82 miles on it, and carb was just rebuilt because of clog in fuel line.
I think its low idle or fule/air adjustment. Mechanic who did it not a bike mechanic and likely didn't adjust correctly??

  • drlarry626 Jul 05, 2011

Can you tell me where the fuel/air and idle screws are? I tried to find picture of desciption on line. Bike is a 2007 200SE DR

Visible, or do I need to punch out a plug?

    Thanks Again!

  • drlarry626 Jul 05, 2011

OK, I found the idle screw and sped up idle. Bike now runs on 1/2 to full choke.
Dies if turn choke off even after 5 minutes in 75 degree temps.
Should I try adjusting fuel/air, or just take to dealer. Anything else to check?

  • drlarry626 Jul 05, 2011

I carb was just rebuilt 10 miles ago! Another ideas (gas filter, settings etc), or should I just take it in?

  • drlarry626 Jul 07, 2011

OK, thanks for help. I'll accept your answer.

Solution was to take to dealer. Not happy, but it likely best he can do w/o seeing bike.

You need to rebuild the carb and have all jets and ports cleaned, You can see a diagram at this link

Ok, well just turn the fuel/air screw all the way in lightly and back it out 2 turns, set the idle with the idle screw and then readjust the fuel/air 1/4 turn at a time until perfect, just test ride between initial settings and readjustment settings

  • Anonymous Jul 05, 2011

The idle screw is #28 on the diagram I sent a link to earlier.

Fuel/Air is located at #14 on the diagram (you will need to remove a cap to make an adjustment here)

Since these setting are rarely ever off far enough to cause the symptoms that you posted, I would still recommend rebuilding.

Since the fuel/air is factory set and usually doesn't need adjusted, I would recommend just taking it in.

If old gas sat in the carb. for more than a month it starts to dry up. As it drys up it leaves behind a varnish like film that stops up some very small ports and pin holes inside a motorcycle carburetor. It is also very hard to get out. You can try this before you pull the carb. for a full cleaning. Use a product called Seafoam, get as much gas out of the carb.s as you can. use a turkey baster and force the seafoam into your carb. fuel line that you take loose from the fuel tank. Let that set for say 1 or 2 days. then hook up the fueltank with a mix of good gas and seafoam, (not a lot but enough to start it up. Move the cycle outside as the seafoam will make a lot of smoke if it does start up. If that does not clear up the problem you may have to pull the carb. and remove the blows to clean the inside. If you have to do that do not DO NOT MESS with any adjustment screws. Just take the carb. bowl off. Do not mix up any internal parts. It is best to work on a large sheet so if you drop a small part you can find it, you do not want to be missing some tiny spring or screw. Hope this Helps Fix Ya Up..

I would recheck for clog in fuel line. But if she has sat up for any time there will be dried gas in the line that once re-hydrates will continue to clog the inlet screen in the carb. Also you have one in the tank itself. The petcok will have a screen in it. Check these screens. If she can't get enough fuel she will not run up to speed.

It definately sounds like a pilot circuit in the carb is plugged up.. you must thoroughly clean the entire carb.
This requires removing all jets and running a small wire through all orifices, spraying them with a quality carb cleaner (Berrymans B12 is among the best) and blowing them out with compressed air until all ports flow free. Also check your pitcock, and drain and flush your tank to rid any debris.
Good luck, i hope this helps.

No amount of adjustment is going to make up the difference of having to run a full choke just for it to idle.

Engine will start but only run at choke or half choke and low throttle sputteres and or dies if you try to increase to full throttle and dies if you take off choke

Check fuel pump delivery for adequate flow. If when choke enrichment is applied and it runs, then dies when choke is off, fuel flow is inadequate and needs choke enrichment to compensate. Also, if engine dies or chokes when increasing rpms, this will be a symptom of too little fuel. Check fuel flow at pump, then, if flow is good, check for carb blockage, unscrew the jet and inspect, check the operation of the solenoid at the bottom of the bowl, it has a wire attached to it. Trace that wire to where it plugs in, unplug it and touch it to the positive pole of the battery, it should retract. If not you need a new solenoid that has the job of metering in gas to the inner bowl below the jet assembly.

Only runs on full throttle

Are you saying full throttle, or full choke? if full throttle, you should be able to set the idle up. the idle screw will be the one when you give it gas, it will be the screw on you'r throttle linkage. If full choke, maybe the spark arrestor is plugged. You can remove it by removing the muffler. It would be between the muffler and cylinder head. You don't need this to run.I hope any thing I posted will help.
