I'm sorry that I can't answer your question but I only work on Harleys. I don't have anything against Suzuki motorcycles only that I've never worked on them before. I have a 2000 RM 250 & my bike had the same issue. The best thing to do is to take to take apart the ENTIRE Powervalve assembly & thoroughly clean it. This mechanism can gunk up pretty good & it will seize. Once you get it cleaned & reassembled, make sure it actuates & slides properly before putting your top end back together. Best practice would be to do a thorough cleaning everytime you replace your piston or rings, which be at least every year.
