The Oxygen Sensors (O2S) are attached to, and protrude into the vehicle exhaust system. Depending on the engine or emission package, the vehicle may use a total of either 2 or 4 sensors.
Federal Emission Packages : Two sensors are used: upstream (referred to as 1/1) and downstream (referred to as 1/2). With this emission package, the upstream sensor (1/1) is located just before the main catalytic convertor. The downstream sensor (1/2) is located just after the main catalytic convertor.
California Emission Packages: On this emissions package, 4 sensors are used: 2 upstream (referred to as 1/1 and 2/1) and 2 downstream (referred to as 1/2 and 2/2). With this emission package, the right upstream sensor (2/1) is located in the right exhaust downpipe just before the mini-catalytic convertor. The left upstream sensor (1/1) is located in the left exhaust downpipe just before the mini-catalytic convertor. The right downstream sensor (2/2) is located in the right exhaust downpipe just after the mini-catalytic convertor, and before the main catalytic convertor. The left downstream sensor (1/2) is located in the left exhaust downpipe just after the mini-catalytic convertor, and before the main catalytic convertor.

SOURCE: location of oxygen sensor

All of your oxygen senors are located in your exhaust system they are 4 of them on this vehicle. They are all screwed in to exhaust pipes with wire connections on them. All that's needed to replace them is an oxygen sensor socket and a ratchet this can be bought at any auto parts store. Good luck and thanks for using FIX YA

SOURCE: where is the bank 2 sensor 1 located.

Oxygen sensors are always numbered like this:

Bank 1 sensor 1
Bank 2 sensor 1
Bank 1 sensor 2
Bank 2 sensor 2

some manufacturers use a kind of shorthand that reads different, but means the same thing:
Sensor 1/1 or O2s 1/1
Sensor 2/1 or O2s 2/1
Sensor 1/2 or O2s 1/2
Sensor 2/2 or O2s 2/2

Bank 1 is always the side of the engine where cylinder number 1 is located and, of coarse, Bank 2 is the opposite side.
On a 4 cylinder engine, there is only 1 bank and it is always referred to as Bank 1.

Sensor 1 is always the upstream sensor (The one located BEFORE the catalytic converter)
Sensor 2 is always the downstream sensor (the one that is located AFTER the catalytic converter.

Most GM engines have #1 cylinder located on the left bank, (or Driver's Side) of the engine,

So, the answer to your question would be that you are looking for the sensor located before the catalytic converter on the right (or Passenger Side) of the truck.

SOURCE: location of the bank 1 sensor 2 O2 sensor on a 2001 ford escape

B1 means the sensor is located on the same bank of the engine that has the #1 cylinder. B2 is located on the opposite bank.
S1 means the sensor is located BEFORE the catalytic converter
S2 means the sensor is located AFTER the catalytic converter

You didn't say which engine you have, so I've included the diagrams of both 4 cyl and 6 cyl so you can see the banks

SOURCE: where are the 2 oxgyn sensors located

There's one located directly after your catalytic converter and the other one is located before your catalytic converter (somewhere between your headers and that cat)

Testimonial: "There are actually 2 sensors. One on the engine manifold and the second is on the atalitic (sp) converter. "

Location of the engine oxygen sensor for a 2009 Buick lucerne

There are at least 3 oxygen sensors. There is one on each side of the exhaust system as the exhaust leaves the engine. These are the upstream sensors. The exhaust then goes to catalytic converters. If you have two, there is a sensor after each one. These are the downstream sensors. Before replacing a sensor, uou should determine if it is bad. Trouble codes indicating problems with the oxygen sensing circuits may have many causes other than a bad sensor. Also be advised that a special socket is needed to remove an oxygen sensor.

How to Replace an Oxygen Sensor
Parts:
1. Oxygen Sensor
2. Oxygen Sensor

Tools:
1. 3/8 in. Drive Ratchet
2. Multimeter
3. Oxygen Sensor Socket
4. Combination Wrench Set
5. Crimp Tool
6. Socket Set
7. Scan Tool

Steps:
Step 1 * Park the vehicle on a level surface. Set the parking brake and open the hood.
o Tip: Safety Tip:Always wear safety glasses when working on your vehicle. Wear other personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary, for example latex gloves or safety shoes.
o Tip: Always make sure the struts on the hood can fully support the weight of the hood so that it does not close on you while working. The use of a hood prop can securely hold it in place.

Step 2 * With the engine off and cool, locate the defective oxygen sensor in the exhaust manifold or pipe. If necessary, lift the front of the vehicle and support it with jack stands.
o Tip: Most vehicles have multiple oxygen sensors. How many sensors, depends on the model year and type of engine.

Step 3 * Disconnect the wire connector at the defective oxygen sensor.

Step 4 * Remove the oxygen sensor from the exhaust system.

Step 5 * If you are installing a universal oxygen sensor, cut off the connector from the original sensor and splice the connector wires to the new oxygen sensor. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions supplied with the sensor.

Step 6 * For threaded oxygen sensors, apply anti-seize compound to the threads and install the new sensor.

Step 7 * For flange mounted oxygen sensors, install a new gasket and tighten the mounting bolts.

Step 8 * Reattach the wire connector from the sensor.

Step 9 * If necessary, connect the OBD I/II scanner and erase the fault code.

O2 Sensor on a 1996 Cadillac Eldorado

Hello mrsalbert, my name is JShreader. Thank you for choosing fixya.com

Depending on which oxygen sensor you are looking for...there are several of them throughout the Exhaust System. I will start out by giving you a brief description of what and oxygen sensor is, and they're general purpose.

DESCRIPTION
Four Heated Oxygen Sensors (HO2S) are mounted in the exhaust system where they monitor the oxygen content in the exhaust stream. There is an oxygen sensor mounted in each exhaust manifold and one on each end of the catalytic converter. the oxygen sensor located in the front exhaust manifold is the Bank 2 Sensor 1 (Front) sensor. The oxygen sensor located in the rear exhaust manifold is the Bank 1 Sensor 1 (Rear) sensor. The oxygen sensor located in the Y-pipe ahead of the catalytic converter is the Bank 1 Sensor 2 (Pre-converter) sensor. The oxygen sensor located in the catalytic converter outlet is the Bank 1 Sensor 3 (Post-converter) sensor.

OPERATION
An oxygen sensor acts like a battery because it creates its own signal voltage once it reaches operating temperature. This voltage is produced when the oxygen content in the exhaust stream is different than the oxygen content in the atmosphere. A lean condition (high oxygen content in exhaust) will produce a low voltage (near 0 volts) and a rich condition (low oxygen content in exhaust) will produce a high voltage (near one volt). The PCM provides a reference signal voltage (0.45 volt) and a ground to the sensor. The PCM reference voltage is necessary because the oxygen sensors do not provide their own voltage until they reach operating temperature.

HEATING ELEMENT
the oxygen sensors also incorporate a heating element inside of the sensor housing. This heating element is energized with the ignition On and allows the sensors to reach operating temperatures quickly. The PCM can then use oxygen sensor information sooner after engine start-up.

PCM INPUTS
The PCM uses oxygen sensor information during Closed Loop operation to constantly adjust fuel control to reduce exhaust emissions. Because the oxygen sensors provide information sooner after engine start-up, exhaust emissions are reduced. Faulty oxygen sensors will cause various driveability conditions and will set a DTC.

That being said...I uploaded a .pdf for you of pictures showing the locations of ALL the oxygen Sensors on your Vehicle. You can download it by clicking HERE.

I hope this helps you. If you have any more questions or need any more diagrams, please don't hesitate to ask...Thanks again, JShreader!
