I have a 04 650 classic that was doing the same thing you have to take the tank off two 12 mm. bolts one at the choke the other on the other side take the three allen screws out the speed gage pull up look under and you will see a brass collered speed cable nut its only hand tightened undo it and the two plugs lift tank off and you will see the carbs and the fule filter there are four screws on each carb dont strip them apply inward pressure and remove them the jets are there flat head narrow one unsrews cluan it so does the wide one its two in one remove the float and needle valve and clean also remove small + screw where the needle valve goes and pull brass retainer out and clean the screen do one carb at a time so you can use the other for refrence.

Sounds like you need to clean carbs or throttle bodies which ever you have.

My bike was running great. I have a 2008 vstar 650 and put vance and hines short shots on it along with dynojet kit and k and n airfilter. Now it will only run on choke and dies when I push the choke in. I...

You have fitted an awful lot of kit and so I would suggest that you take it to a rolling road (Dyno) and get the bike set up properly. It will csot you , but it will be well worth the money.

VSTAR 100, Stars with chick on full, dies when pushing choke to of and can not thorttle up with choke on.

You need to let the bike idle on choke for about 5-10 minutes before taking the choke off to ride it.

My bike hasnt been ridden for a few months, and you need to give it full choke to start and keep it going, it wont idle when the choke is depressed, It is A Vstar 650 Classic

was fuel left in the carburetors when you parked it your metering jets might be slightly clogged with varnish i dont recomend opening them yourself take it to a professional and next time you park it for an extended period of time close the fuel valve and leave the bike running until the carbs run out of gas "the bike will stop running when this happens"

I have a 1994 Intruder. It only starts and runs

The hot side is running way too lean. Have your carbs synchronized may help. Try draining the bowls. Good luck.

2001 v star 650 classic won't idle after being stored

You have a gummed up mainjet. Always store a gas engine with Staybul gas additive to avoid this problem in the future. Now, on to the current problem. Since the bike will at least idle your in luck. Just go down to an auto parts store and get a can of Sea Foam. I usually find it at NAPA it's a white can that looks like it came from a gas station in the 1940's Because it did. Mechanics have been useing it for years. Anyway, dump about half the can in the tank with a couple gallons of gas and fire it up. Let it idle a long time. Then start trying to ride it. You may have to let it set over night if it's really gummed up but it will clean it out. Easy fix, and you can leave it in with no problems. Happy motoring.

Vstar 650 classic. only will idle.

hello and welcome
this is a very very commom problem after the cycle has gone over a storage period of anything over a month or so. what has happened is the deteriorated fuel has plugged the idle jet, and possibley other jetting. this is verified by pulling out the choke allows it to run. because this makes of for the loss of fuel the jets are not produceing. so to fix this you will need to remove the carbs and take out the jets and clean them thoroughly with a carb cleaner and possibly a very small gauge wire to break up builup. especially in the pilot jet. unfortunately fuel added carb cleaners dont seem to work for this kind of problem and to fix right they should be disassembled and cleaned thoroughly. thank you.
