Question about 2000 Yamaha V Star Custom

I have a 2000 Yahama Vstar 650. It starts up immediately but runs really rough, stalls when I turn the choke off... We just purchased it two weeks and the gentleman told us that it sat last year. However, it did start great for him and he even allowed us to ride but on full choke. My husband cleaned one carb but couldn't get to the second. We see on the forums that everyone suggests Seafoam! HELP as riding season is here and I want to get out and ride!! The bike has awesome get up and power however, it wants to stall when first taking off. You need to gas it to go and it jerks to the point where it doesn't feel safe.

If old gas sat in the carb.s for more than a month it starts to dry up. As it drys up it leaves behind a varnish like film that stops up some very small ports and pin holes inside a motorcycle carburetor. It is also very hard to get out. You can try this before you pull the carb.s for a full cleaning.Use a product called Seafoam, get as much gas out of the carb.s as you can. use a turkey baster and force the seafoam into your carb.s fuel line that you take loose from the fuel tank. Let that set for say 1 or 2 days. then hook up the fueltank with a mix of good gas and seafoam, (not a lot but enough to start it up. Move the cycle outside as the seafoam will make a lot of smoke if it does start up. If that does not clear up the problem you may have to pull the carb(s) and remove the blows to clean the inside. If you have to do that do not DO NOT MESS with any adjustment screws, DO NOT MESS with any adjustment screws. Just take the carb. bowl(s) off keep each one separate and number them so they do not get mixed up. do not mix up any internal parts. It is best to work on one at the time so nothing goes wrong. Work on a large sheet so if you drop a small part you can find it, you do not want to be missing some tiny spring or screw. Hope this Helps.

The Ford Escort ZX2, the 2.0 liter is a interference engine,The valve and the piston kissed each other as they met with a broken timing belt,Just to let you know a cam position sensor does not create rough idle, it can stall the engine at a stop sign,but the solution is a valve job, and who ever put the timing belt on after the job should have done a cylinder effeciency test.

I have a 98 Yamaha Vstar Classic 650. It runs good no problems but when on highway and get to 105-110 km/h it acts like it is running out of gas and stalls, i have to put choke on and it starts right back...
Change your plug first, cheap easy to do.

Then check for dirt in the carbs, normally colects in the float bowl & if that is the problem fit one of them paper inline fuel filters for future.

If thats not it then look at your ignition, coil first (again cheapest first).

2003 vstar 650 custom. sat for 2 weeks, now it won't start except on full choke and stalls if you try to give any throttle. will run for a minute or so but then stalls out. changed fuel, air filter, fuel...
Might be crud in carbys if not injected. If carbed then undo the carb drains to see if fuel comes out.

My bike hasnt been ridden for a few months, and you need to give it full choke to start and keep it going, it wont idle when the choke is depressed, It is A Vstar 650 Classic
was fuel left in the carburetors when you parked it your metering jets might be slightly clogged with varnish i dont recomend opening them yourself take it to a professional and next time you park it for an extended period of time close the fuel valve and leave the bike running until the carbs run out of gas "the bike will stop running when this happens"

Starting?
pull the choke out fully, start the engine, push choke into halfway if it will still run, let it warm for a min or 2. ride it, it may need choke still for about a mile. but thats trial and error, try pushing it in, you will find out right away if the bike still wants it.
