Have a 2006 yamaha v-star 1100 custom mcy. after sitting all nite when i try to crank it it has a terrible noise, like metal grinding or somethin like that.i doesn't do it after i ride & stop & get back on it.it's always done this since i've had it but it's got much worse now. yesterday i thought it was just going to give up and not crank. i've put a brand new battery on it. i did it with my old battery too. bout all i know about a motorcycle is to drive it. i thinkin maybe the starter?

Very possible the one way starter clutch is about to go out on you, which is located behind the flywheel, Should be repaired by qualified service tech, as it requires removal of flywheel as it is attached to the backside of the flywheel, extensive repair, and expensive as well so be prepared.

SOURCE: where is the oil filter on my yamaha V-star 1100

On the right side of the bike (right side when ou are sitting on it) just above the rear brake lever behind a small circular plate. remove the plate and the oil filter is inside (you will easily see it). Warning---on these bikes you have to drop the front exhaust header and right floor board in order to change the oil filter unless you install a after market oil filter relocation kit. If you plan on changing your own oil it is highly recommended to install this relocation kit.

SOURCE: Yamaha 1100 Drag Star 2001 Custom motor starter,

These parts are fairly reliable. Rather than buying new, you should be able to pick one up from a motorcycle breaker who will post it to you. I would expect to pay about £60-£100 tops in the UK (Depending on mileage). ANy Yamaha dealer will be happy to order you one new, but they are a hell of a price!

This thing runs great but sometimes when i go

Suonds like the float level is high. Try cranking it without opening the throttle and see if that helps. If you can hear the engine trying to start, give it a blip.

Kicks back when cranking also grinding noise

THESE BIKES ARE EQUIPPED WITH ONE WAY CLUTCHES ON THE STARTER DRIVE. WHAT THEY DO IS HELP TO PREVENT ENGINE DAMAGE IN THE EVENT OF A KICK BACK. IF THIS HAS HAPPENED A LOT, THEN THE ONE WAY CLUTCH COULD BE DAMAGED AND BE IN NEED OF REPLACING. THIS WILL ALSO CAUSE SOME OF THE GRINDING NOISE YOU ARE HEARING.

Clicking noise from rear wheel

Is your bike chain drive? It sound like you have a link in the chain hanging up. Check it and lube it.
