1999 Honda VT 1100 C3 Shadow Aero Logo
Posted on Mar 05, 2011

I just bought a 1999 Honda Aero and it did not come with an owner manual. Where is the choke on this bike. Is there any free down loads with "getting started" on the Honda Aero/shadow of this vintage>?

The choke is on your left hand handle bar, it is the black slide down lever. 1. Push the lever inward to choke the bike 2. give the throttle two turns and start the bike. ( do this so you don't drain your battery, even with a new battery you need give the bike the gas to start or you will have to recharge the battery) You will hear the engine change pitch when it warms up, push the choke upwards and the bike should idle on its own.

I think you are exactly right. Sounds like you have some clogging in your idle jets and probably in need of a carb tune up. if you havnt replaced or cleaned your air filter in a while, now would be a good time to do that as well, being that some filters begin to break down and pieces of them get into the carb ports and cause clogging.
