A click or tick is normally a hydraulic lifter that is sticking. Try this, which I have seen work wonders. Purchase a can of Seafoam Engine Treatment which can be found at most auto and marine stores plus Walmart. Add 1.5 ounces for each quart of oil in the engine. Drive the truck 50 miles and then change the oil using the correct weight as listed in your owner's manual. Change the filter and make sure to use a quality filter such as Mopar, Purolator, Wix, or Bosch. If the tick or click is not completely gone retreat the oil with Seafoam and then drive the truck until the next oil change. The Seafoam will not harm anything and will throughly clean the engine. If the click or tick is still there, you will need to seek professional help. I would bet this solves your problem.

My 1996 Dodge Caravan has a ticking sound what do I do

I have to answer that question with a question, do you have any enemies? Other than that your ticking wasn't clarified, where sound is coming from, is it coming from underneath after you've driving it = catalytic converter burning off deposits or tin shroud cover on exhaust same are cooling off. A steady ticking from engine when it is running may indicate a failing rocker arm or hydraulic lifter, 1/2 a quart of tranny fluid added to engine oil usually quiets hydraulic lifter problems. If engine is missing the ticking can be the sound of spark jumping from sparkplug wires to metal, open the hood at night and with engine running look for sparks, if v6, you may need a mechanics mirror to see over back side of engine to watch for sparks jumping. There are also other possibilities depending on where sound is coming from such as a rock in brakes, or snow studs in tires clicking on pavement. There could be a cricket inside your van, this sound would subside in a few hours in hot sun with windows rolled up. Someone who drives van maybe lost their alarms clock in the seats, the one they take to work each day to sleep on the job, I've seen that happen before. I hope all this info will assist you in how to find your ticking sound

Low oil light came on 2005 equinox checked oil it was low there is a ticking sound. I put 2 quarts in started back up, light is still on also still ticking.

The lifters have to be primed with oil. This may take a while. Let the engine run, after a while the oil pressue light will go out, and the clicking will stop. If you have lost oil pressure the engine will shut off as a safe guard so it is alright to let the engine run while clicking as long as you have oil in the case.

I have a 2004 GMC Envoy XUV with 127000 on it. The vehicle has been maintained and services better than any of my previous vehicles so this specific issue is just driving me crazy. About a week ago I...

These engines are known for ticking fan clutches. If the ticking doesnt significantly increase with the engine revving, it may be the fan clutch. The clicking usually happens momentarily and dissipates, and increases only to a certain engine speed. If its an internal mechanical issue, ticking will increase simultaneously with the engine speed increase.

Clicking noise from engine when accelerating

The fact that it happened after you got it serviced is obvious that there something that was not done right. Check the engine oil, cuz clicking noise is sometimes caused by not enough engine oil or no oil at all!!

I have a 05 dodge magnum sxt, and for some reason it makes a ticking noise could anyone tell me wut dis means

Hi There ,

My name is Mike. I'm here to help you sort this out. You are my eyes and ears in diagnosing the problem. So I'll ask some questions and you give me as much detail as you can. OK?

Well first off, there are differ types of ticking. It's the when and where I'd need to know.

Does it occur when you try to start? A rapid clicking? A single Click?

Does it happen while the engine is running? Does the speed of the clicking increase and decrease with the engine RPM's.

Vibrations, tranny slipping, and engine tick

Sounds like you may have a worn out CV joint and the clicking may stop with an oil change. Good Luck

Valve ticking

It is not a valve. It is the purg selinoid for the evaporator. It is a normal noise and will not cause any problems. I have the same issue on my 300C. They may have redesigned it on the 08 and newer to get rid of the ticking noise. Chrysler has had many complaints about this noisey selinoid
