Sounds like a clutch shoe spring has broken. This could be causing the clutch shoe to stay in contact with the clutch bell. I would remove the engine and take the clutch bell apart to investigate further.

Dyson dc17 makes loud noise on carpet setting. It's like a high pitch ringing almost but won't make the noise on hard floor, only carpet setting. Ive checked for blockages and cleaned all parts but makes...

It is probably the brush roll motor making the noise. Remove the brush roll & belt and turn both motors on. If you do not hear the noise when both motors are running the noise is likely coming from the brush roll

My compressor wont come on

Check for a bad start capacitor/relay. Also check all wiring and contacts for integrity. Get it to run. If loud noise on start up or shut down that is caused by a broken internal spring (usually three) that hold and center the motor inside the container. If one breaks the startup torque will twist the motor up against the shell making the noise. Has no effect on operation and/or longevity - just noise that can be lived with. If you shim compressor in the opposite location of spring break you may eliminate start up noise completely.

Turns over but wont crank...horrible screeching noise

To clarify, if the engine cranks or turns over but won't start, look for a stuck pulley on the engine. You may be hearing the belt slipping on that pulley. Take the belt off and try turning each pulley - also try starting the engine with the belt off.

TAPPING NOISE, NOW IT WON'T GO INTO GEAR WITHOUT LOUD GRINDING NOISE AND ACTS LIKE TRANSMISSION WON'T ENGAGE TO DRIVE

If it is an automatic transmission, first check the fluid level. If it is low, fill it up and try it again. If the level is fine, then there is a bigger issue and you should seek a professional's help.

02 jag x type how to remove starter

Hello sal... On the X type Jag everything comes out fron the top.

Remove battery and battery box
Pull back rubber cover at end of starter solenoid and undo wires
Un bolt 2 bolts that attach the starter to the bell housing/ Transmission. - these are vertical bolts, you can see them looking straight down from above. One of them has a ground wire on it.

Then lift starter and wiggle its way out of there.

If you have a manual transmission, have the starter tested, i have seen the bendix/pinion gear all gummed up with clutch dust, and then it wont engage properly and will make horrible grinding noises. This can be easily taken apart, cleaned, relubricated and put back into service.

Good luck, i hope this helps.

Noise

Hi Linda,
Sounds like clutch problems, try to move the lever for carpet/floor back and forth a few times maybe it will free up. If it still makes the grinding noise, the clutch assembly will have to be replaced. Let me know, i can even walk you through the repair if needed.
