Bike was running fine on highway and sudenly cut off. As I was coasting I was able to restart and it ran fine for a couple of days. Then it happenned again twice on the same ride. This time I started it but after I let the clutch out it only ran for a few seconds, with full power, then cut out again. Hit the starter again and it started fine and I drove home. now it will not start at all. The engine turns quickly but does not fire. There is gas smell coming from the exhaust pipe so I know it is getting gas. All fuses look good. I have not pulled the plugs uet to see if there is a spark.

SOURCE: 05 katana 600f no spark!

sounds as if you have an issue with the charging system, try using a volt meter to determine if the bike is charging. To do so you will need to access the battery under the seat, with the bike running hook up the volt meter to the battery terminals, at idle you should have around 11volts when reving you should have around 13volts. If not you may have a bad stator or other electrical issues. good luck

SOURCE: Engine filling up with gas

Hi, a friend of mine had the same problem with his old gs750. In his case it turned out to be a damaged diaphram rubber in the petrol valve. In addition to this he also had a bad needle and seat in one of the carb bowls. With both these faults the petrol flow could not be shut off, so gravity took over and filled the crankcase. hope this helps, Bikemanbig.

SOURCE: Engine filling up with gas

gsxr's are known for this problem, you left the petlock on run which will seep petrol through your rings, on the on position no fuel escapes because you need a vacuum to start the fuel moving

Ok, you said you have spark in one of you comments. The most critical thing on a bike that sits is the fuel. It can go bad in less than six months and cause carb problems if not drained fotr storahe. Make sure your fuel is fresh aand you will be surprised.

If it's blue smoke, your burning oil. Get the head gasket checked. If that's ok your looking at something more serious, (more expensive), inside the engine.

Not getting any power unless choke is on

Only running good with the choke on is an indicator that the bike is normally running too lean. The fact that it runs good with the choke on at least tells me it is getting fuel to the carb(s). Therefore it seems probable that there is clogging in the carburetor jets or there is a big air leak between the engine and carb(s).

Car intermittantly shuts off and won't restart for an hour or two

I owned a 1988, Oldsmobile 88, that did that. after several hundred $ of "repairs" - It was that pump IN the gas tank that had gone bad.

I have a 1988 Dodge Dynasty that acts like it's vapor locking.

yes fuel pump is dying (it's old ) it will finnaly give up the ghost some day soon then engine won't run at all

common problem pump heats up and shuts off cools off and runs again cyclic

this all assumes you have kept up on changing the fuel filter at reg intervals too

yes about the stator have you checked the batt power with the bike running, charge the batt get the bike running see what your meter reads should be 13v aprox. trun bike off leave meter on batt and see if it starts counting down if so the batt could be pooched and the fuel issue could just be junk plugged up the filter around the petcock

I don't know a lot about the Japanese bikes but it sounds more like an ignition problem to me. The "tip off" is the popping sound out of the pipes. It's getting fuel, that's what is making the popping sound in the pipes, the fuel igniting in the pipes. Now, the fuel should be igniting in the cylinders. I'd like to be able to answer that question but I know nothing about our bike. I specialize in Harleys. I'd investigate the ignition system.

Good Luck

Engine cut out at highway spped & won't restart

Check the starter relay. Everything you're talking about gets it's power through there on the earlier bikes.
