I have a 2000 softail springer. The other day I was riding and stopped the bike. When I went to re-start the bike , all I heard was a squelling , spinning sound. The bike would not even turn over. I had to push start it. Could it be the starter or solinoid ? Are they easy to change ?

Your 2000 model bike has a starter made by Nippondenso and the starter and solenoid are unitized. Your problem is what is known as the "over running clutch" and it has gone bad. It is a replaceable unit but it requires not only the removal of the starter but disassembly of the starter as well. If you can do the work yourself, you can save some money by replacing the clutch. If you can't do the work, just have the entire starter replaced. The labor time involved in disassembling and reassembling the starter will eat up any savings you might have realized by replacing the clutch rather than the entire starter. It takes about an hour to disassemble the starter and replace the clutch after you've got the starter off the bike.

Good Luck

I will be riding along and my bike dies like you yurn off the key it will start back up but it takes a little bit

Sounds like it's tripping the main circuit breaker. It is located on the rear splash gaurd. I would try replacing it first before tracking down a short, they do go bad over time and is pretty common. Make sure the connections are clean and tight. Good luck!

What's the proper oil level on the dip stick for my springer softail harley and do I check the oil when it's hot or cold.

check when oil is hot(let idle for about 10 mins, or a short ride),level sould be about halfway between marks on stick. your bike only holds about 3 and 1/2 quarts including the filter, pour small amount at a time when topping off.

Hello, I have an 07 Springer Softail. My problem is that the front end is stiff, really stiff...no movement at all. I took the shock off and it seems fine. It's like the front end is a rigid.

If your bike responds normally while riding upon the road and if during front braking the springs directly behind the headlight "extend" and "relax" in a "normal" fashion then you aren't experiencing any difficulties/problems. Springer front ends should only be adjusted or serviced by very qualified personnel as the spring pressures exerted by a springer assembly can seriously injure untrained persons.

Bike stalls after 45 minutes riding

HT coil, 99% certain, the one that's on the end of the plug lead. electrical stuff, particularly HT coils break down when warm. if it was a CDI unit it would likely go pop and that's the end of it. you can get the coil tested, or get a second hand cheap one or borrow one to see if that's it. I used to test them by putting them on a radiator to get really hot, faulty ones would give up real quick then.j
