SOURCE: how to remove seat to get at battery

from what i remember on mine, it did have to come off and what a bear it was to get the seat bolts to align properly during reinstallation.

remove the seat, remove the battery, install the new battery (but install a battery tender pigtail and route it down the side), install the seat (lightly tape the hex bolts to the hex wrench so you can stick them in the blind hole) and secure the pigtail to the frame. now when the battery gets low, the seat doesn't have to be removed to top charge it.

Hello I have an Buell 1125cr and I'm try to remove the batt. I have the front seat off but how do you remove the back passenger seat. Thanks for any info have a great day.

The rear seat is held on with a lock operated by your ignition key. You will find a Buell tool kit under there also.

I just want to change the battery on my sportster ,1200, 2002 how do i get the seat off, or do i need to?

yes, you really need to remove the seat. Although I am not familiar with your particular model, most Sportster seats are held on by a single bolt screwed into the rear fender at the very back of the seat. Remove the bolt, lift the rear end of the seat slightly, and pull it to the rear. There is a tang on the front of the seat that slips under the frame. Once out, you should be able to see the battery and the strap that holds the top battery cover down. Loosen the nut and remove the hold down strap and battery top cover. Remove the rubber strap that holds the battery into the tray. Disconnect the negative cable first when removing the battery. When installing the battery connect the negative cable last.

Good Luck
