Try to start my 1600 yamaha roadstar and solenoid just clicks, suspect a bad starter am I right?

  • Anonymous Mar 28, 2014

It clicks at the decompression solenoid. I have a new battery, starter relay and starter on the bike. My repair manual says there is no procedure to check the decompression solenoid. Any ideas to fix this problem?

My 2000 yamaha 1600 clicks when I try to start it

The clicking may be the starter solenoid. Check for a dead battery or defective solenoid.

My 2001 yamaha roadstar makes a clicking noise when trying to start and it wont do anything else. I took off the cover from where the click is coming from (bottom right side to the left of the brake), and...

When you push the starter button you hear a click , so you know the button is working. Follow the positive battery cable to the starter solenoid. Take a wire and jump the two posts on the solenoid or touch the two cables together. If your starter works, then you need a new solenoid. If you hold the starter button and tap on the starter with a plastic hammer and the starter works you need new starter brushes. Anything else wrong with the starter and you need to replace the starter assembly , the manufacturer does not make replacement parts for the starter.

Yamaha starter problem

From your description of the failure of the starting system the starter solenoid and the starter clutch is what I though of. It is possible the new starter clutch is bad also. their is TSB about the starter system on this unit.
