The drain plug is under the left hand foot peg. The filter is located behind the exhaust headers. Remove them and you will see the filter housing at the base of the engine. Refill on the right hand side and your sight glass is under the filler/dipstick (both use the same hole). Remember to only check the oil level when the bike is upright (not standing on its stand)

Hope that is not too vague

SOURCE: Where is oil filter found and how to replace on XVS 650 Classic

1. ) Using the 10mm hex socket, remove the two bolt holding the mufflers to the frame. Next, loosen the clamps holding the front pipes to the mufflers using the 6mm hex socket. Using the wipe rags (HOT!), pull the mufflers toward the back of the bike. They should slide right out.
2. ) (This step is only required if you have an 1100 Classic with floorboards) Using the 14mm socket and wrench, loosen the two bolts holding the right floorboard until they are almost completely out, and the floorboard will hang down slightly.
3. ) Next, using the 8 mm wrench, remove the bolt holding the rear brake reservoir. Let the unit hang loose.
4. ) Using the 12mm socket, remove the two nuts on the forward exhaust pipe flange. Grabbing the front of the pipe with wipe rags, gently remove the front exhaust pipe. Take extreme care in removing the pipe as you will scratch it (like the dealer's shop always does) if you are not careful. If the copper gasket falls off the engine, just let it go. I promise you that it will be very, very HOT! Just make sure that it goes back on when you re-assemble the pipes.
5. ) Using the 8mm hex socket with the 10 in. extension (or an 8mm. \"T\" wrench) loosen the five case screws holding the filter cover. There are 3 different lengths of screws, so leave them in the cover. You don't need to remove the 3 screws holding the round \"Yamaha beauty\" cover on the filter cover, there is nothing behind this cover (It comes off easily to enable you to buy a new one from the Star Catalog for $39.95 STR-5KS27-43-02 that does not say Yamaha). Remove the filter cover. If you wrap a small square of aluminum foil over the section of frame and wiring just below the filter cover, you will avoid slopping oil over the frame of your bike.
6. ) You will find an unpolished filter hatch plug underneath which you will need to wiggle back and forth as you pull straight out to remove it. Be careful not to damage the O-rings on the cover. Wipe any grit or dirt away with a clean paper towel.
7. ) Remove the filter (pay attention to the orientation of the filter when you remove it). Wipe any sediment from the filter chamber with a clean paper towel and insert the new filter.
8. ) Reinstall all parts in the reverse order of disassembly ==== Unscrew the black plastic oil filler cap and insert the funnel into the filler hole. Engine Oil with oil filter replacement (3.28 US qt) ( 0.28 quart = 8.96 oz ) Engine Oil- Without oil filter replacement
(3.17 US qt) ( 0.17quart = 5.44oz ) ====

Start the bike and bring it up to full operating temperature. Check for any signs of leaking oil from the filter hatch and the drain plug.
When you shut the engine down, check your oil level in the sight glass on the left side lower engine case. The bike must be held level front to back and side to side. This is quite a balancing act as your head needs to be about 14" off the ground in order to see the oil level in the sight glass.

SOURCE: 2003 YZ 250 Oil Change

Use 10w40 in the gearbox. Get the oil from your Yamaha dealer along with any filter your bike may need. Some bikes use an oil change as the "filter". To drain oil, get the engine warmed up and turn it off. Put a pan under the gearbox and remove the oil drain plug. Replace the oil plug when the flow becomes a slow drip. Change oil in late spring, the middle of summer and in early fall. Remember to lube the chain and adjust it when needed. Lubricate the cables with liquid graphite. Lastly, install a stock spark plug. Now go for a ride.

Please rate this solution as a "FixYa" if I have answered your questions. Thanks!

Can you change transmission fluid on a manual transmission if so how

'Transmission Fluid' in a manual transmission vehicle is called 'gearbox oil'. On the gearbox, there is a drain plug in the bottom somewhere and a fill plug on the side. You drain, clean the drain plug, replace the copper washer and put the drain plug back in. Fill the gearbox with oil until the oil starts to weep out of the filling hole. Replace the fill plug.

year make model change gearbox oil

Please include 'year make model' in all questions in this category. Thanks.

Manual gearboxes usually require a gearbox oil change every 30,000 to 50,000 mi (48,000 to 80,000 km). Automatic gearboxes usually have gear oil change intervals of between 60,000 to 100,000 mi (96,000 to 160,000 km). It's advisable that you change your gearbox oil filter at the same time as your oil.

Oil Change

Depending on the manufacture some come with oil filters and some without. There exists on all machines a drain plug located on or near the bottom of the crankcase housing. Use a suitable container to catch the drain oil ( 1 gallon drain pan ) . Drain the oil completely from the crankcase some drain plugs contain a magnet to catch particles clean it off prior to reinstalling it, reinstall the drain plug. Locate and remove the oil filter making sure the old oil filter base gasket comes off with the old filter, install a new oil filter as described by the manufacture. Then refill the crankcase with the proper mount of new engine oil through the filler plug/ dipstick hole.

Where is the oil filter located?

The engine oil filter is located just right of center if standing in front of the car. By removing the LARGE Black cap with the 36mm nut you will expose the filter element, make sure to do this before draining the oil from the drain plug in the pan. Otherwise the filter will still hold oil until loosened a bit. A typical oil change should go like this.
1. Engine Hot, not running, Loosen filter housing, don't remove yet.
2. Drain Oil, Replace plug.
3. Remove and Replace filter and O-Rings
4. Add oil.

1st time changing oil filter on v6 2008 rav 4,

I just changed my oil on my RAV4 V6 and the first thing is you are not looking for the regular canister but a oil housing like on the old farm tractors. You just replace the inside filter cartridge. The canister is in front on the engine on the passenger side. Use a 3/8 socket to open the bottom and drain. Next use a oil filter cap wrench to remove the housing. Actully this is a less messy than my chevy and more "green."

Oil and filter changing for 08 sienna. How complicated is it?

You still have to drain the engine oil from the drain plug in the oil pan, and I recommend replacing the drain plug gasket.
If you buy a filter from Toyota, it actually comes with instructions on exactly what to do. There is a 3/8" recess in the bottom of the filter housing, when you put a 3/8" extension and a ratchet in this and remove it, there should be a plastic piece that comes with the filter to pop into the bottom of the housing and drain the oil. replace the o-ring and reinstall the housing drain plug.

You can get a filter-cup tool from Pep Boys or local auto parts tools sections that will fit the filter housing. Use the cup with a ratchet and extension to remove the filter housing. replace the filter cartridge and the o-ring. Make sure to lubricate o-ring, they will snag! Reinstall and add 6.4 qts of oil
