Adjusting the rear shock is a realitively simply process, once you expose the shock.
On the left side of the bike, use your key to remove the tool box cover. Remove the inner cover from the tool box and remove the tools that came with the bike. The tool box itself is held in with 2 - 10 mm hex head screws (which also have philips head slots). Remove the tool box.
Now the rear shock absorber should be visible. Use the spanner wrench and handle extension in your tool kit to make the desired adjustments to the shock absorber.
Reverse the process to put everything back together.

There are 2 holes at the base of the shock absorbers. Turn them clockwise for a softer drive. At factory they are setted at 3. THey go from 1 to 6.

on the bottom chrome band there are like four holes. in your tool kit there is a "thing-a-ma-gidgette" (i call it this because it looks like one, it is actually a "spoke wrench"). the tail of the spoke wrench will fit in the 4 holes Righty tighty so it feels weird: one side you are turning towards the front one side towards the back.

Hi Patti, Road Kings have air shocks at the rear. You will need a FL touring hand pump and adjust the air pressure accordingly to your weight/load.
