How do you remove the headlight bulb

Like a lot of modern cars, you will need to remove the headlight to replace any of the bulbs. This is easier than you think! On top of the headlight there is three small bolts holding it on. Remove these bolts and the entire headlight should lift out. It might be a bit stubborn but this is usually the water seal on the back of the light fitting.
Remove the wire connectors on the back of the headlight and the covers. This should reveal the bulbs which are held in by spring clips.
Refitting is the reverse of this. I would suggest you lightly clean the seal on the back of the headlight and the area where it touches to keep the joint water tight.

Danielle, On the driver side you may have stuff in the way, which may have to be removed, to change bulb. Sometimes it is easier to remove headlight then change bulb and reassemble. Videos attached make it look fairly easy to change he bulb with out removal of headlight.

I find it much easier to remove the headlight to change all the front bulbs on my Fiesta Zetec 1.25 :)

might i suggest its easier to take the headlight out

it possibly would be easier to remove the airbox out the way if you remove the headlight it may possibly put it all out of allignment and then you would have to get it re aligned by the garage, so its proberbly better to remove the airbox, it normally is quite easy to replace bulbs but can be awkward hope this helps

On the elantras i have found it is easier to unbolt the headlight (2 bolts) .Once unbolted There will be either a rubber cap that you pull off or a big plastic round cap that has fins on it that you unscrew( backside of the headlight). The plug that goes on the bulb is rectangle shaped, and on the short sides of the rectangle are tabs that you squeeze to pull it off the bulb. Then there is a retaining wire that holds the bulb to the headlight, it has a loop that you push on and slide over a little then swing it out to release the bulb. It can be a nuisance, but once you do it the first time the second time will be a lot easier.

The procedure doesn't call for removing the headlight assembly. It is as follows:
The high beam headlight bulb and the low beam headlight bulb are replaced the same way.

Open the hood. To change the high beam headlight bulb on the passenger’s side, remove the power steering fluid reservoir from its holder by pulling it straight up.

Remove the electrical connector from the bulb by pushing on the tab and pulling the connector down.

Remove the bulb by turning it one quarter turn counterclockwise.

Insert the new bulb into the hole and turn it one-quarter turn clockwise to lock it in place.

Push the electrical connector back onto the bulb. Make sure it is on all the way.

Turn on the headlights to test the new bulb.

If you replaced the high beam headlight bulb on the passenger’s side, reinstall the power steering fluid reservoir.

you don't you unscrew the lamp holder and pull the bulb out and pry the bulb from the bulb holder asembly.

This problem is now resolved, thanks to a prior post by sableowner.

The 2003 Sable has the same headlight assembly and removal/replacement instructions as the 2001 Sable. Once I had this information in hand, bulb replacement was easy.

The owners manual does tell you - but it is not obvious.
Unscrew the headlight unit - 1 screw
Push down the 2 retaining clips at the back of the unit to release them (long screwdriver needed
Remove the headlight unit so you can work on it - it will come out - try getting the end in the middle of the car out first rather than the wing side
The rest is easy as you have space to work.

It is easier to put the unit back than take it out apart from the clip on the wing side !
