Removal

CAUTION: The brake drum and hub assembly removal in this procedure is for installing a new wheel bearing, not for access to brake system components.

-All vehicles

Remove the dust cap.
Remove the wheel and tire.
For additional information, refer to: Wheel and Tire (204-04 Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation).

-Vehicles with rear drum brakes
Release the parking brake.
Remove the brake drum and hub assembly.
Remove and discard the wheel hub retaining nut.


-Vehicles with rear disc brakes
Remove the brake disc.
For additional information, refer to in this section.

Remove the wheel hub.
Remove and discard the wheel hub retaining nut.


-All vehicles

Remove and discard the wheel speed sensor ring (brake disc shown).
Remove the circlip (brake disc shown).
Using the special tool, remove and discard the wheel bearing (brake disc shown).

-Installation

-All vehicles

CAUTION: Support the wheel hub assembly on the wheel mounting face and not on the wheel nut studs.

Using the special tool, install the new wheel bearing (brake disc shown).

Install the circlip (brake disc shown).

CAUTIONS:

Make sure the wheel speed sensor ring is not knocked, damaged and kept free from metal fragments.

Protect the face of the wheel speed sensor ring with a non-ferrous flat block to prevent damage.

Make sure the wheel hub or brake drum is adequately supported and do not allow it to rest on the wheel studs..

Make sure the wheel speed sensor ring is pressed on slowly and squarely until fully seated.

Do not exceed a maximum load of 10 kN.

Using the special tool, install a new wheel speed sensor ring (brake disc shown).

Vehicles with rear drum brakes

CAUTIONS:

Avoid impact on the wheel speed sensor ring.

Make sure the wheel speed sensor ring is clean.

Avoid any contact between the wheel speed sensor ring and a magnetic surface.

Rotate the wheel hub assembly 10 times counter-clockwise when tightening the wheel hub retaining nut to prevent damage to the wheel bearing.

NOTE: Install a new wheel hub retaining nut.

Install the brake drum and hub assembly.
Apply the parking brake.

-Vehicles with rear disc brakes


CAUTIONS:

Avoid impact on the wheel speed sensor ring.

Make sure the wheel speed sensor ring is clean.

Avoid any contact between the wheel speed sensor ring and a magnetic surface.

Rotate the wheel hub assembly 10 times counter-clockwise when tightening the wheel hub retaining nut to prevent damage to the wheel bearing.

NOTE: Install a new wheel hub retaining nut.

Install the wheel hub retaining nut.
Install the brake disc.

Install the wheel and tire.
For additional information, refer to: Wheel and Tire (204-04 Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation).

NOTE: If the dust cap is damaged a new dust cap must be installed.

Using a soft faced hammer and a wooden block, install the dust cap.


There is no real torque settings for the rear wheels, except to say, do not over tighten or you will stretch the lugs and the will loosen over time.

My abs lite is on and code says left rear sensor bad. I need to know the process to change it on a 2001 dodge caravan

1. Remove the left rear tire
2. Remove the left rear sensor
3. Install the new sensor
4. Put the tire back on

Change rear stud bolt on rear tire

take tire off, remove drum , hammer out old one. with nut and spacers turn nut to pull stud in hole.
If vehicle has rotor. remove tire, remove brake caliper, remove center axle nut, remove rotor. hammer out old. install new one

STORM COUPE
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Lift the luggage compartment floor carpet toward the front of the vehicle and remove the spare tire cover panel.
  3. Remove the ten plastic retaining clips from the rear end trim panel.
  4. Disconnect the luggage compartment lamp electrical connector.
  5. Remove the luggage compartment trim panel and the rear end trim panel.
  6. Disconnect the rear combination lamp assembly electrical connector. Fig. 1: Rear Turn Signal, Brake and Parking Lights — Storm

  1. Remove the seven nuts and the rear combination lamp assembly from the vehicle.
  2. Disconnect the rear combination lamp electrical connector.
  3. Remove the four bulb sockets from the rear combination lamp assembly and remove the four bulbs from the sockets. To install:
  4. Install the four bulbs to the sockets and install the four bulb sockets to the rear combination lamp assembly.
  5. Connect the rear combination lamp electrical connector.
  6. Install the rear combination lamp assembly to the vehicle and the seven nuts.
  7. Connect the rear combination lamp assembly electrical connector.
  8. Install the rear end trim panel and the luggage compartment trim panel.
  9. Connect the luggage compartment lamp electrical connector.
  10. Install the ten plastic retaining clips to the rear end trim panel.
  11. Install the spare tire cover panel and the luggage compartment floor carpet.
  12. Connect the negative battery cable.

Rear axle bearing replacement


REAR WHEEL BEARING/ HUB

Removal Procedure
  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting in General Diagnosis.
  2. Remove the wheel and the tire. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
    1. Remove and support the brake caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement (Front) or Brake Caliper Replacement (Rear) in Brakes.
    2. Remove the brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
    3. Remove the ABS sensor wire connector.
    4. Remove the four bolts from the control arm.
    5. Remove the hub and bearing from the control arm.
    6. Remove the brake shield from the control arm.
    7. Clean the control arm face and the bore before installing the hub and the bearing.
    Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
    1. Install the brake shield and the hub and the bearing to the control arm with the four bolts. Be careful not to drop the hub and the bearing, as it could be damaged. Reconnect the ABS sensor. Tighten the hub and bearing bolts to 70 Nm (52 ft. lbs.).
    2. Install the brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
    3. Install the brake caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement (Front) or Brake Caliper Replacement (Rear) in Disc Brakes.
    4. Install the wheel and the tire. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment. Tighten the wheel nuts to 140 Nm (100 ft. lbs.).
    5. Lower the vehicle.
