Turn to the side and then engage the lock with the key.(you may need to push key in before it will lock)move it a little to the left or right to let the lock fit into the handle bar lug.

I have a maxim x 750. If it's similar, then look for a seat lock on the right side (facing forwards). I thought it was the helmet lock but that is on the left side of the bike. Once you unlock the seat lock the seat pops right off.
