What fuel and (oil does) 2003 sportster a XL1200C take?

I just imported a 2003 XL1200Custom from the USA and it had to be drained of oil and gas for shipping. What UK spec liquids do I put in my HOG?

I have a '99 XL1200C. With a high flow carb kit and Screaming Eagle exhaust. With the baffles taken out.

I've used the 'Genuine Harley Davidson 20W-50 oil'.

Even with scheduled maintenance, I would pour a quart in every 400 miles. Since switching to 'Valvoline VA1 20W-50 Racing Formula'. Now it's a quart every 1,000 miles.

As to gasoline. I found that Shell Premium runs best in my 1200.
Even with the high flow carb kit. My mpg is 52 on the freeway, at 70 mph. And 35 in the city. With 55 mpg as a best.

You need engine oil, usually 20 W 50, and primary case oil, 50 weight.
Depends on your Climate. Cold, you can use thinner oil.
You can buy from a Harley Dealer, Genuine brand Harley Davidson Oil.

Recently bought a 2003 1200 sportster. Specifically asked the previous owner about shutting off petcock when not in use. He indicated it was not necessary as it had a carb drain feature. I've put...

Your 2003 Sportster should have been equipped with a vacuum operated petcock unless someone has changed it out. This is highly likely since the factory units were very prone to problems. To drain the primary, look for a pipe plug underneath the primary at the very back underneath the area of the clutch. Refill with one quart of H-D 20W50 SYN3 engine oil or any other suitable lubricant.

Frount fork oil amount in a HD XL1200C

"wet" = 9.0 ounces
"dry" = 10.2 ounces
If you simply drain the oil then readd the oil, it is considered a "wet" oil change.

If you disassemble and clean all the components and then add oil, it is considered a "dry" oil change.

Information source, Clymer's manual

Good Luck. Steve
