SOURCE: 2004 Yamaha V-star 650, wont start.

change the coil you may not think it got hot but sometimes a coil can overheat on the inside just enough to break the copper winding. when riding hard slow down for a couple of miles to give everything time to get back to normal temps before shutting it off

SOURCE: how to lower the idle on a 2002 yamaha 650 v-star classic?

under the left side of the gas tank you will see i black knob/screw at the end of what looks like a hose. the knob faces the rear of bike. that adjusts the idle. its real easy to find and the only adjustment you can make to the carbs.

SOURCE: Engine makes noise when it gets hot.

If the cam was adjusted at all, they may have miss-aligned TDC.

I doubt this, but this is something to put in your arsenal of argument against a poor service experience.

They should resolve this issue without claiming obvious solutions first.

They are not incorrect in that setting a carb lean will cause these issues. It may be beneficial to simply tweak the carb first and see if this helps. Reference the owners manual, or do your best to observe the color and smell of exhaust under throttle while adjusting the carb. Its important to make sure you do not lean this out to far, as you already may know.

FixYa's! Can we can a second opinon on this please?

SOURCE: where is the oil filter on my yamaha V-star 1100

On the right side of the bike (right side when ou are sitting on it) just above the rear brake lever behind a small circular plate. remove the plate and the oil filter is inside (you will easily see it). Warning---on these bikes you have to drop the front exhaust header and right floor board in order to change the oil filter unless you install a after market oil filter relocation kit. If you plan on changing your own oil it is highly recommended to install this relocation kit.

My husbands Yamaha Royal Star will completely stall while riding. Any ideas?

Make sure you have fuel getting to the carb/injectors. If you have fuel and you say you fiddled with the ignition switch and it worked, you might need a new ignition switch. I hope this helps. Rod

Hey Anon,
Sounds like its time for a trip to the Qualified Professional to clean, check, and set the carburetors..along with a new air filter.
The black spark plugs are indicative of carburetors being in need of cleaning and setting!

Your engine does not have hydraulic lifters. It is a dual OHC ( Over Head Cam ) setup and has an adjustable valve lash. It is not to costly to have a shop reset the valve lash. I strongly suggest you have a dealer's service department inspect the bike before you buy it. The factory pipes do not have removable baffles. Know one thing; most dealers will not work on a bike over 10 years old. Yours is almost 10. Parts availability is the problem. $450 is the approximate parts cost to replace both pipes. I have a 2000 Yamaha Royal Star Venture with 50k miles. The clutch seems to begin to slip under heavy acceleration. What to do?

join delphi forums, they have many many tips for concerns, search for a royal star forum in there.....GREAT PEOPLE, i belong to the vstar rider one.
but look into replacing the weak clutch springs with heavy duty barnett springs, probably just weak.....
oil changes are with motorcycle wet clutch oil? auto engine oil has additives that will cause slippage .
good luck

Miles

As long as you keep taking care of it the bike will last a long time . 10 thousand miles in 11 months is a lot of miles .Do you realize you rode more miles in 11 months than most people do in a decade
