Continuous or just for the 5-10 seconds.
If continuous you may have oil seeping past your pistons oil rings or valve guides oil seals.
Check your spark plug see if they are fouled badly (covered heavily and oily) or just covered by oil and sooth lightly.
If 5-10 sec it is normal as the engine is heating up there are normally a little oil seeping past the seals.

The question to ask is how long do you get this smoke?
Is it really white (water vapour) and nothing to worry about.
or
Blue (oil) and only puffs for a short while and clears. Again, not a problem, just a little seapage past seals and fairly normal.
or
Blue (oil) and continues. This is something more serious and you should have a compression test done to identify if it from piston rings or valve seals etc.

My 2003 BMW R1150RT won't start after it overheated, what would the problem be?

It depends on how hot it got and for how long?

Holes in the pistons under the spark plugs.
Burnt Exhaust Valves.
Stuck Valves.

First thing to do is to remove and visually inspect the spark plugs and then test for compression.

Interesting reviews and on mentions burnt valves.

Why bmw x5 battery drain fan not working exhaust blowing out white smoke... what may be happening.

White smoke out of the exhaust indicates moisture (water) in the exhaust. If the car is not driven very far each day, some moisture will collect in the muffler and cause white smoke for a short while after starting. If the smoke is continual, however, you need to watch you coolant level as you may have a blown head gasket.

When my bike is running I get white smoke from the right side exhaust and the right side also blows harder than the left. What could this be?

IF you are running stock pipes (not "True Duals"), the right pipe exhaust ALL from the front cylinder, and SOME of the rear, and the left pipe only blows SOME of the rear alone.

The stock rear pipe splits, some going to the left pipe by itself, and the rest going to the right pipe WITH the exhaust from the front cylinder.

Now, white smoke usually indicates moisture.
Being a (non-VRod) Harley, that eliminates the liquid coolant, because there is none.

Next up that comes to mind is condensation.
BUT, this would burn off fairly quickly.

So is the white smoke only at first, or even when warmed up?
And if warmed up, is it actually coming OUT of the pipes, or OFF the pipes (like some oil burning)?

White smoke from exhaust after changing fuilds

Is it condensation or actual smoke? White smoke is associated with diesel mixed in petrol and with quite strong smells. I suspect that it is condensation as water vapor is a by product of combustion and the motor/exhaust will have to warm up to clear it. Check for water droplets at the end of the exhaust to confirm condensation. Burning oil will cause a blueish smoke to emit from exhausts.
