The clutch cable has one end that goes into the lever on the handlebar and the other end with an adjustable lock nut that goes into the lever on the engine. Firstly make the outer cable as short as you can by screwing the lock nuts right in. Feed the nipple at the end of the cable into the groove in the lever. The outer cable will feed through a mounting bracket. Fit it into place and hold it tight with the locknuts, one on each side of the bracket. feed the cable up to the handlebar keeping it as straight as possible away from the engine and exhaust. Attach the other end into the lever and feed the outer cable through the back of the lever. Put the adjuster in the middle of the threads on the outer cable. Go back to the lever on the engine and start lengthening the outer cable until the clutch works well and lock the lock nuts tight with a spanner. You can make fine adjustments on the adjuster by the lever on the handlebar.

How to change clutch cable for 78 suzuki gs750

Remove the gas tank then run the new cable along side the old cable. Unhook the old cable at the engine then hook up the new cable. Now remove the old cable from the bike. Give the cable adjusters all the slack you can get then hook the cable into the clutch handle. Pull the outer cable outward and hook the end of the outer cable on the outside of the adjuster. Pull the lever in all the way then release the lever while pulling on the outer cable. This should allow you to snap the cable end into the adjuster fitting. Below is a generic photo. Clutch cable

On the transmission, where the cable adjusts, loosen the adjuster enough to have enough slack in the cable to remove the hardware holding the cable on the release lever. Then from under the dash, unhook the cable from the clutch pedal. Lift the cable end up off the pedal hook.

Clutch Cable Snapped

Hook the cable on the case lever then route the cable to the clutch handle. Turn the adjuster lock wheel all the way to the outer end of the adjuster then turn the adjuster all the way into the lever mount. This makes the adjuster as short as possible. Line up the cut-outs in the adjuster and the lock wheel to the cut-out in the lever mount. Hook the end of the inner cable into the clutch handle. Now pull the outer casing of the cable to the end of the adjuster. If the cable end isn't long enough to slide into the end of the adjuster then put the end of the outer cable on the adjuster shaft at the lock wheel and pull the clutch lever in. Now quickly release the lever while pulling the outer cable to the end of the adjuster. Normally it will pop into place so you can set the clutch lever 1/4" end play. You may need to try it a few times until you get it.
