2000 chevy silverado 1500 battery light keeps coming on then going off.The voltage meter on the dash will flutter also.This has been going on for awhile now until the other day it came on and stayed on until battery was almost dead.brand new alternator and check the battery and its good too.Any thoughts?

Check the switch that is under the dash on the brake pedal arm.

i got a 2001 silverado 1500 and it wont start it turns over and fires and .... Put the key in and the truck barely starts due to the battery being weak. .... The speed controller on the dash must have one off the selectors faulty. so use a meter to checck the input voltage which is coming in and then the selector switching voltage to the motor coil winding. If voltage ispresent in the switched output then the motor winding can be faulty.
So check under th dash and trry to see if you can test without removing the whole unit.Use a good light to probe , use a multimeter in DC range.

Could be anything from corrosion on cables, loose cables, lose or faulty wiring of wires behind alternator
defective voltage regulator. Visually inspect all the items noted. Then use a volt meter and measure the charging voltage of the alternator. It must be between 13,5 to 14.5 volts with and without accessories on at idle and 2000rpm. Anything below 13.5 weak battery or defective alternator ,lose wiring , corrosion. Anything above the 14.5 volts is a defective regulator.

try checking the wires going to each wheel hub or bearing. these are for your anti lock brake system. the wire could be broke on inside of insulation too so check carefully. can check wheel sencers by unplugint each one and checking with volt meter. very low voltage ( mili volts) while you turn the wheel.

Autozone will check the codes for free .Itsounds like a secondary ignition problem possible plug wires :)

i've got a '79 scottsdale 4x4 myself actually.. the best thing you can do is go buy a cheap voltage meter.. remember the wiring/connections are 30 years old.. so bad wires/connections/gauges/sensors could be all over the place..

for example, my voltage gauge would barely move out of the orange when i got it, i rewired the vitals and it still only reads 13v max, however, when i hook up a voltage meter to the hot alt wire, it reads over 14v..

remember.. old wires=resistance/heat=voltage loss.. this could easily account for a sensor triggering even with a fresh battery and alt

Try pumping the brakes 3 or 4 times with the truck running in 'park'.

The problem is with the front actuator.Its flashing in the dash lights because is not functioning properly.Replace actuator and fix problem.Its a 4 or 3 wire screw in plug in front axle,,
