Yamaha Virago 535, no throttle response at highway speed

I have a Yamaha virago 535. The bike goes like a bat out of hell until I get up to around 50 mph. From there if I try to roll on the trottle I get no response. I have to back off and roll on very slowly to accererate. There is absolutly no gunning it at highway speed. There is no response, just stays at the same speed I was going

You may have a fuel problem ,try cleaning out your main jets and try running with no air cleaner .it may need changing ,and a new one fitted

You have to strip the carb of the bike to get to the jet .they are made of brass and are very small .you will need a very small socket or in some cases they alos have a flat head screwdriver fitting .They get blocked or cet coated in a glue like substance which eventually blocks the very small holes thus cuttingf down the feul supply .

Is this a good frist bike to learn how to ride?

hi,generally speaking yes, they have a very forgiving engine with gentle power delivery(no sudden surges of power like sports bikes)they are also very comfy to ride and yet even though it is only a 250 it will cruise quite comfortably at highway speed..enjoy..hope this helps
