The service history is important. If you adjusted your valves after it got hard to start there is a possibility of heavy valve face wear. Check with your mechanic, if the intakes had zero clearance or required a shim change of 2 or three sizes - the valves are worn. When this happens the valves will rapidly wear and go out of spec again after just a few hours of riding. This means the intakes valves have wore all the way back to zero clearance and are leaking compression. This equals hard starting.
No you shouldn't have to get them adjusted that ofter by no means......have to changed spark plugs lately......run any carb cleaner through you motor such as seafoam (found at autozone or advanced)? anyway thats what i would do before i adjusted the valves again
