Which engine oil are you talking about. There is a tank under the seat that uses injection oil for a 2 stroke, or the engine oil in the crank cases that uses 10w40 motorcycle oil.

try draining the gas and putting fresh gas in as well as a brand new spark plug. If those dont help you may need to clean the carb.

I have a Briggs stratton 14 hp ohv I/c quiet model 287707. I had a guy change the oil & he put 10W30 synthetic oil in it. Now it smokes white smoke really bad. I think he put the wrong oil in

There is a very real difference between 30W and 10W30 oil. Whether it's synthetic or not probably doesn't matter. If you have the literature that came with the mower, it will tell you the recommended engine oil.
If they put in the wrong oil, they should make it right. You shouldn't have to pay twice for an oil change. It could be burning oil, since 10W30 is a lower viscosity than 30W. I would have them change it again, and see if it stops smoking.

Hi, call me a typical woman when it comes to cars, but my question will prob be simple to answer, all i need to know is when do i check the engine oil, when motor is warm or cold, cheers Mel

Hi crazee_mumma,

There is nothing wrong in asking questions when we are in doubt , it gives others the opportunity to help...:)

  1. To check the engine oil if it's filled up to the appropriate level you can check it even if the engine is cold.
  2. To replace the engine oil it's recommended to remove it while the engine is hot as it helps the oil to be removed from the engine almost completely so that there is hardly any old oil in the Engine , after you put new oil in it.
Hope this helps...:)

I just aquired a 1000 fzr exup.theres 2 filler caps on the engine for oil refill.which is which and where and what do i put in,is 1 for gear oil?and the other for engine oil?

Hi, there are 2 caps on the fzr1000 exup the larger of the two which is located on the top of the r/"h engine cover, this is the oil filler plug, and the smaller is infact a dipstick, the level on the dipstick should be read when the dipstick is only resting on the top of the case, and not screwed home, furthermore, the engine and gearbox use the same oil as it is a single unit,

Cleaned carb - revs high

You must have wrongly fitted it back, check throttle cable and see if the carb air intake is closing properly when throttle is released. This should solve your problem.
