Need to replace melted pick up in timing gear and would like diagrams on what it should look like in book. it is a 1996 model

what do you want to grease, you never said.
bearings, tie-rods, ujoints etc. only>?

are you asking for ZERKS? only?
or all places on car with grease.?
or
are you saying just grease? and only things that must not be removed for service with grease, (like wheel bearings and splines)

the map includes LUBE points.
but adds gear boxes,axle gears, GL4 and GL5 (gear lube) is lube. too
but engine oil is not lube, to 1996 books.

1993.(oldest for GC) the word LUBE is wide reaching...

The timing belt is inside the housing (plastic) and if it was off then the engine would not have been running. The belt you saw is the serpentine belt and drives the accessories such as alternator --fan---power steering---water pump---ac compressor. With it missing the engine would have no water pump or fan and would have been getting quite hot. Get a new belt and if you have a owners hand book the lay out will be in a diagram.

Generally speaking, eight cylinder engines have the top gear dot on the bottom and the bottom gear dot on the top - facing each other.
You may want to check a repair book or shop manual for your specific engine.

check the local library they have chilton books,hopefully they will have one that covers your vehicle,use their copy machine to copy the section you need .10 cents a copy or so

You need to pull the trans and rebuild it ( replace the shifter sleave/fork ). If it's a front wheel drive model you can pick up a cheap used one (same part as in the Corolla). Unless you do a lot of highway driving or the Toyota is otherwise in great shape, I would just drive it without 5th gear since it's so old.

pick yourself up a haynes manual from autozone, or pepboys, etc. the book will tell you exactly how to replace anything and everything that would need to be replaced on the vehicle... they show you pictures and have the written instructions so you dont mess up... hope this helps you out...

go to any part store and you can get a repair book for your make and model and the diagram will be in there the book will run you about 20 bucks

Trans needs to be rebuilt. Or just not use 5th
