The K&N filters flow allot more air than the stock airbox did. I am also assuming that you changed plugs when you changed coils. Check your new plugs heat range and you'll probably find they are too high a heat range and this can also cause a overheating problem. Last thing to check is the points. If you changed your Dwell angle or gapped the points incorrectly in any way you could also have a timing issue. All in all if you don't fix this you'll fry the engine.

Header pipes glowing red

Check fuel mix for being too lean. It will run hotter. If you are caning it around, they will glow.

I have a Honda xr 100 dirt bike when running exhaust seems to get red hot in front pipe on bike is there a problem

It sounds like the carb just needs to be adjusted. If the mixture screw (air/fuel) is too far in, it will cause it to run lean/hot. The high idle is also just an adjustment often cured when you get the air/fuel mixture set correctly. Back the mixture screw out in 1/4 turn increments (turn left) until it bogs a bit. Then turn SLOWLY to the right until it just starts to smooth out. Run it a bit there and see if it helps cool the head pipe down & lowers the idle. It really sounds like you currently have a lean condition.

Hi i have a wr400 99model and have just done an oil filter n oil change then i started my bike it all seemed fine until five minutes of the bike running the header pipe started to glow red i drained the...

All the wrf's,250 426 400 etc. WILL heat up and boil if they are left running without being ridden. They need air to be flowing over the radiator.1 minute can be enough to get them hot if the choke is used. You wrote that this happened after an oil change.Did you previously let the bike sit and run?.Check your air filter is clean as this can enrich the fuel/air ratio and create extra heat.Main thing is ,shut the bike down if you are stopping for more then a very short time.To satisfy yourself, take the bike for a slow ride as it is warming up.It can take up to 1 mile to get proper temp. into the entire motor.Hope this helps

I have a 2001 yamaha wr250f and after running only a couple minutes the header pipe is glowing orange!! verry hot, what are some of the things that may cause this? thanks Rod.

Air leak causing a lean fuel/air mixture, bad radiator cap killing pressure in the cooling system, low water in the radiator, plugged radiator, broken water pump, not using premium gas and a spark plug with the wrong heat range.

Please rate this solution. Thanks rodsixfifty! < cool name
