SOURCE: "emergency operating condition"

hi Daveanjos,

i dont own a bmw bike, but this info may help out.

The emergency operation means

The engine is running in emergency operating mode. Engine power might be reduced and this can cause hazardous situations, particularly if you attempt to overtake other road
users. Engine power level might be lower than normal: adapt your
style of riding accordingly. The engine control unit has diagnosed
a fault. In exceptional cases, the engine stops and refuses
to start. Otherwise, the engine runs in emergency operating
mode. You can continue to ride, but bear in mind that the usual engine power might not be available.

Have the fault rectified as quickly as possible by a
specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad
dealer.

This is normal. Its part of the start up diagnostics where the sensors needs to see the wheels rotate 1 or 2 revolutions to verify proper functioning of the ABS system.

It could be brake linings, ABS or anything to do with engine management. If you do not service the bike yourself, I would get it booked in for a service at your local BMW dealership. They usually lend a bike if you need one.
Hope that helps.

2004 Lincoln navigator interior lights don't come on when unlock. Sometimes auto headlights don't come on, seats don't move. Liftgate won't open until vehicle is started. Is this a relay or fuse?

. When you open the door or just unlock the door the lights don't come on ?
Vehicle Security Module The vehicle security module receives inputs from the following:
  • door ajar switches
  • keyless entry keypad
  • ignition switch
  • remote keyless entry transmitter
The vehicle security module uses these inputs to control an output signal to the instrument cluster which controls the battery saver relay and courtesy lamp output.
Interior Lighting Systems The instrument cluster grounds the battery saver relay and supplies the power for courtesy lamps when any door ajar switch is opened, or the interior lamp (headlamp) switch is closed. The instrument cluster then supplies voltage to the interior lamp circuit. Vehicle speed must be less than 24 kph (15 mph) for the instrument cluster module to keep courtesy lamps on. The interior lamps will remain illuminated for up to 25 seconds after all doors are closed unless the instrument cluster module receives an input from any of the following:
  • voltage from the ignition switch
  • a vehicle speed signal
  • input from the keyless entry keypad through the vehicle security module
  • input from the remote keyless entry transmitter lock or panic switch through the vehicle security module
Do you know what body control system DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes are ?

Principles of Operation
The autolamp system provides light-sensitive automatic on/off control of the headlamps and parking lamps controlled by the vehicle security module when the headlamp switch is in the autolamps position. When the ignition switch is turned to the RUN or START position with the autolamps feature already enabled and the ambient light level is dark, the vehicle security module will request the headlamps and parking lamps be turned on. When the autolamps are disabled, the vehicle security module will request the headlamps and parking lamps to be turned off, regardless of the ignition switch position. When the vehicle security module has turned on the exterior lamps and the ignition is turned to the OFF or ACCY position, the exterior lamps will remain on for an additional time specified by the customer or the headlamp switch is turned off.
When the autolamps have been enabled and the ignition switch is in the RUN/START position, the vehicle security module will request that the exterior lamps be turned on or off based on ambient light level. If the vehicle enters darkness for at least 15 seconds, the vehicle security module will request the exterior lamps on. If the vehicle enters light for at least 15 seconds, the vehicle security module will request the exterior lamps off. By delaying turning on and off the exterior lamps during short periods of darkness and light, the vehicle security module prevents the exterior lamps from flashing on and off.

  • The autolamps are inoperative - do not operate correctly
  • Circuitry.
  • Photocell.
  • Headlamp switch.
  • Vehicle security module.
  • Go To Pinpoint Test G .

Power Lock
The power lock/unlock feature requests all of the vehicle doors, including the liftgate, be locked or unlocked upon a customer request from any interior door lock switch in the vehicle. The power door locking system functions independently of ignition status or vehicle speed. When the vehicle security module receives an unlock/lock command from any door lock control switch, the vehicle security module will activate relays internal to the module to supply the correct power and grounds for the door lock actuators.

What will cause a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire to not go into the extended learn mode when replacing the ign lock assembly .

Did you clear codes ? . All codes in the theft deterrent module must be cleared for a relearn.
PASSLOCK Changing - Components Description
Important: Due to component variability, the vehicle theft deterrent (VTD) system must have the learn procedure performed regardless, if the vehicle starts on the first ignition cycle after a VTD repair.
All codes in the theft deterrent module must be cleared for a relearn.
Engineers design the Passlockâ„¢ system in order to prevent theft even if the various theft deterrent parts change. The Tamper mode will engage if any of the following components change:
• The Passlock™ lock cylinder
• The instrument cluster
• The powertrain control module (PCM)
If you replace any of the above components, the system will enter the long tamper mode. If the system enters the long tamper mode, ensure that the system completes a long tamper mode cycle. During the long tamper mode cycle, the THEFT indicator will flash for the full 10 minutes. The instrument cluster and the PCM require the full 10 minutes in order to complete the learn cycle. Ensure that the ignition switch remains in RUN until the indicator stops flashing. If you turn the ignition switch before the indicator stops flashing, repeat the long tamper cycle from the beginning.
Are there any codes ?

1998 chevy cavalier where is the BCM (body control module) located?

You have no idea what your messing with . Theft light on , DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored . Before you start replacing BCM an making matters worse ,do yourself a favor an take it to a qualified repair shop .
The powertrain control module (PCM) communicates with the instrument cluster using serial data over the UART serial data bus, CKT 800. When the instrument cluster determines a Pass Theft condition, the instrument cluster sends a coded password to the PCM. When the instrument cluster receives the correct password, the PCM enables the fuel injection system in order to allow the vehicle to operate normally. The PCM may allow the vehicle to start and stall quickly during a failed theft condition.

The Passlockâ„¢ lock cylinder is a locking cylinder that turns a rotating magnet past a stationary hall effect sensor. The rotating magnet creates a resistance code (R-Code) that the cylinder sends to the instrument cluster. The Passlockâ„¢ lock cylinder interfaces with the instrument cluster through a 3 wire connection. The 3 wires have the following functions:
• Power
• Ground
• Data

Where is chime module located on 2005 ford taurus

There is no chime module ,there is a speaker inside the instrument cluster.
Door Ajar Chime
The door ajar chime feature is controlled by the smart junction box (SJB). The driver and passenger door ajar switches, and the liftgate are hardwired to the SJB. If any door or liftgate is sensed as being open, and the ignition switch is in RUN/START position, the SJB will process the input and sends a chime request to the instrument cluster over the controller area network (CAN).
Safety Belt Warning Chime
The safety belt chime feature is controlled by the restraints control module (RCM). The driver safety belt switch is hardwired to the RCM. The RCM communicates with the instrument cluster over a hardwire connection. If at any time during the first 6 seconds after the ignition switch is placed in RUN the driver safety belt is sensed as being unfastened, the RCM will process the input, and in turn, sends a chime request to the instrument cluster.
Have the vehicle checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes ,not OBD 2 codes , the check engine light has nothing to do with this .

Have 1999 Dodge stratus all the gauges stopped working and odometer reads -no bus- a/c compressor stop working to, they all stopped at the same time.

I'd have to check voltage and ground for the instrument cluster. I noticed one of the fuses for your instrument cluster goes hot with the key on, same thing for ac compressor. I'd have to voltage feed to and from ignition switch for applicable fuse. Check the ignition switch wiring connector. I can't rule out ignition switch itself, at the moment.
There could be other issues?
Ignition switch faults are common on some makes and models.
Instrument cluster wiring connector problems. Sometimes if you disconnect and reconnect the instrument cluster connector, it may start working again, also, cycling the instrument cluster connector may reset, if it starts working, well, it's working for now, may quit again.
Some instrument clusters may do a self test, don't know about yours?
Press and hold odometer reset button, turn key to run position release odometer reset button, watch the odometer. Your indicator lamps may turn on and off, the gages may cycle in small increments. The cluster will exit self test on its own.
You may have to check buss circuits.

MY 1999 FORD EXPEDITION SHUT DOWN,I THINK IT IS MY ANTI THEFT, HOW DO I CUT IT OFF AND WHERE IS IT ON THE SUV?

The anti theft light will flash fast on the dash if it's activated. You simply lock & unlock the doors to disarm it.

Check your inertia switch to see if it is activated. Press the rest button. Se owner manual to rest.

The control functions are contained in the instrument cluster. This module carries out all of the PATS functions such as receiving the identification code from the encoded ignition key and controlling engine enable. The instrument cluster initiates the key interrogation sequence when the vehicle ignition switch is turned to RUN or START.
The PATS uses the PCM to enable or disable the engine. The instrument cluster communicates with the PCM over the SCP network in order to enable engine operation. The instrument cluster and the PCM use sophisticated messages in order to prevent a theft. The instrument cluster and the PCM share security data (when first installed together) that makes them a matched pair. After this security data sharing, these modules will not function in other vehicles. The shared PCM ID is remembered even if the battery is disconnected. The instrument cluster also stores the vehicle's key identification code even if the battery is disconnected. There are special diagnostic procedures outlined in this workshop manual that may be carried out if either a new instrument cluster or PCM needs to be installed.
All elements of PATS must be functional before the engine is allowed to start. If any of the components are not working correctly, the vehicle will not start.
PATS uses a visual theft indicator. This indicator will prove out for three seconds when the ignition switch is turned to RUN or START under normal operation. If there is a PATS problem, this indicator will either flash rapidly or glow steadily (for more than three seconds) when the ignition switch is turned to RUN or START. PATS also "blips" the theft indicator every two seconds at ignition OFF to act as a visual theft deterrent.
The PATS is not compatible with aftermarket remote start systems, which allow the vehicle to be started from outside the vehicle. These systems may reduce the vehicle security level, and also may cause no-start issues. Remote start systems must be removed before investigation of PATS-related no-start issues.
