How to tune the timing chain of a 4 stroke motorcycle

i took the chin off a suzuki quad (4 stroke) and only had to remove the vavle cover/valves, and the crankcase cover. the crank was marked and the cam was marked so it was easier to set the correct timing. if you have a 2 stroke it shouldn't be much diffrent

i know you have to change the oil and oil filter but how often and is that the only thing different from maintance on a 2-stroke?.
