Fault with electric start on my Suzuki GSF 250 Bandit

The bike is a 1995 Suzuki GSF 250 Bandit.
I reconnected the battery after not starting the bike for about a month and the electric start button doesn't work (it was working fine the last time i rode the bike). The battery is charged, all the lights/indicators etc are working. When I press the electric start button the engine doesn't even turn over.
After push starting the bike and letting it warm up I tried the button again and it still didn't work.
Also, while the bike is running (idleing) I pressed the electric start button and the bike immediately cut out. I am guessing this is an electrical fault... Any ideas on what I might be able to try at home with limited mechanical knowledge before I fork out even more money on my bike?!

Check that the clutch is in, kick stand up, and neutral light ablaze. Then try your start button. When you had it running and hit the button, the starter engaged at a slower speed then the bike engine was turning, which led to the stall. The stall means your starter works. If the starter works when the engine is running then it is wiring. Check your kick stand wiring along with the clutch wires which plug in on the handlle bar or where the clutch cable enters the engine.

It sounds like the battery is totaly discharged, using another form of electricity you could use some jumper leads connected to annothwr battery or power pack, if. The bike then turns over then the battery is at fault and should be replaced, WARNING DO NOT RUN THIS BIKE WITH A DISCHARGED BATTERY FOR A PROLONGED PERIOD OF TIME dammage may occure to elecrical parts
