SOURCE: fresh rebuild now no spark

If it ran before, I would double check your electrical connections. Its more likely you didn't get a connector pushed all the way together or left off a ground wire. The ignition coil specs are generally 1 ohm or less on the primary (small Wire) side, and 5K-10K ohms on the secondary (spark plug) side. Each side should be tested to ground. Pick-up coils are typically open or really large ohm reading in Megaohms normally and around 100 ohms when the magnet on the flywheel passes by. there is no way to test the CDI box other than putting it on a know running bike or getting a known good CDI and putting it on your bike. Double check that the spark plug cap is secured to the high tension lead as well. Testing the stator is a little more complicated, but a quick way is to close the gap on an old spark plug to about 0.010" and see if there is a week spark. If so, the stator will need to be replaced.

SOURCE: my 1991 yamaha fzr 600 wont start

how long did you let it sit for with gas in the carbs, you may have clogged up your jets. after awile gas will break down and turn into varnish, if your bike trys to push the varnish through the system it will clog the jets. try to take off your seat then remove your plastic over the gas tank. remove the gas tank and you will see four bowls *silver ones right next to where the gas tank is on the carbs*. your bowls are in sets of two. there are drain screws on the bowls to remove the gas inside. remove the 16 screws holding the bowl onto the carb. *4 on each* inside you will see your floats and jets. carefully loosen the jets with a screw driver then finish unscrewing them by hand, they are brass and very soft. you should be able to hold up the jets to the light and see a small pin hole. if not get some carb cleaner and give them a squirt and blow them out. do not try to use anything to clean them out, they are very very sensitive and one knick will change the jet. after that i would spray some carb cleaner up the jet holes and try to clean them out also. if you have a compressor it would be wise to use that to blow out the gunk from the jet holes as well. after you run threw all 8 jets put them back together and see how it goes, if nothing you may have to check the jets again and if clogged again your carbs are gunked up and will need to be cleaned

hi,sounds to me like your cdi pickup unit has failed,i am not 100% certain but this will be located on the end of the crankshaft behind one of the enginecovers, there could be two other possibilities, motox bikes are notorious for breaking wires so check the wiring from the cdi sender unit to the cdi box and the coil, also check your "off"button it may be stuck in the "kill" position..hope this helps..cheers ian

How to bye pass a scooter cdi box?

You can't, unless you want to push your scooter everywhere. The CDI box stores an electric charge that is sent to the coil to create a spark that makes the engine run. No CDI, no spark at the plug.

Generic Chinese CDI's sell for less than $10 and are perfect, if unreliable, copies of Honda CDI's. Just get the same kind of connector as on your CDI.

I have a 1985 honda shadow vt500c, and like many others before me, im in need of a cdi box, or a fix to a broken cdi box, the used ones on line are a bit pricey for my wallet.

Unfortunately, the ONLY thing you can do is replace the cdi box....what REALLY sucks is that those cdi boxes were only used by Honda for 2 years...85 & 86...all the other years/bikes had MUCH cheaper units on them...And DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT waste your time on a USED part that is 30 years old!!! There is NO WAY to test a cdi box!!! Bite the bullet & buy a NEW one if you want to fix it & forget it.....there are new ones available online from a company in the UK for about $259.00 I speak from personal experience with this EXACT issue & once you replace the cdi box, that bike will run (providing everything else is good)

Best of luck!

Hi.
It's either your coil or CDI thats at fault.
Download yourself a copy of the service manual from the internet and measure the coil resistance values that are quoted in the manual.(how and where to measure is usually shown in all good manuals)
If these are correct then its most likely your CDI.
Your Honda dealership should be able to test this for you, but this may cost as much as a second hand CDI.
The CDI on the XR200 is the same as a lot of models eg. cb125, cd125 .
You will find quite a few on ebay , both new and second hand , make sure you get the same model as already in use (number should be on the CDI)
good luck

well your magneto is fine(because your headlight works when you kick it over) I bet it is something as simple as you forgot to hook up a wire since you had it all taken apart. since your magneto is fine that just leaves #1 coil....or....#2 cdi box.....to find the coil just follow the wire from your spark plug to it....your CDI box should be mounted under the seat( make sure all the wires are hooked up ) and check again.....
