SOURCE: 83 yamaha tt600e no spark

The CDI unit on the 83 model (TT600) is located under the fuel tank and suffers from heat
exposure. The solution is to get specialist help to open up the sealed CDI unit and repair/
replace internal connections (which are readily available electronic components)
When you re-install it put some heat shielding material there to protect it and this
will be OK as repair will utilise stronger parts,I think.
Later models have the CDI unit moved to the head-stem area.

(this info from a Non-mechanic who remembers what was done to his TT in Australia, many years
ago)

follow the plug wire back to the coil and see if there are any breaks, if not might switch coil with the other one and see if the other plug now misfires, if so replace the coil, most cdi problems are not intermittent, typically they either work, or they dont.

Did you check the resistors on the spark plug wires? Too much resistance will prevent the plug from firing.
Sounds like the CDI box is shorting or the wiring harness has a defect it in somewhere in the routing thats heating up after 30 minutes. Yamaha coils very seldom fail, however the CDI box is a common problem on these bikes.
Good luck, hope this helps.
