SOURCE: motor bogs when you give it gas

It is a fuel problem, it can be filter or rubber membrane, they are placed in the valve for fuel.

It sounds like you may have or will be jetting your carbs. I did this using the directions with the kit and used the Clyman manual for this bike to show me step by step how to remove the carborator. You will only need to attach 2 of the 4 hoses on your carb. syncronizer. If I remember right, you need to remove the bolt-on cooling fins to expose the engine block. The is a black screw or bolt that you take out and screw the threaded metal adapter of the sync tool. Be careful using the sync tool. Be very light on the throttle or the vacuum in the cylinder will **** in the mercury from the sync tool - not good. The problem you are stating on idle & backing off sometimes happens when the carbs are running rich (too much fuel) Hope that gets you in the right direction.

SOURCE: 2000 honda 1100 shadow spirit. Rough idle, little power.

Replace the spark plug caps and try again. On Honda's the cap is often part of the wire (a dealer part) NGK makes some inexpensive plug caps about $5 each. They should OHM out to 5000 anything above or below and you need to replace them. This should fix the problem.

More information is needed - aftermarket pipes? any carb work been done to it? is fuel fresh? air filter condition? how are the plugs burning? oily black, white/tan?

It sounds like you need a good tune-up, such as spark plugs and/or wires. They will act up when cold and when warmed by engine temperature will let the engine run smoothly again. And possibly a distributor cap/rotor.

02 honda shadow vt750cd backfiring, sluggish acceleration

Sounds like you need to have the carb jets cleaned. You can try seafoam that you add to fuel tank and ride it to see if that will clear it up, but I have had the same problem with my VF750C Honda Magna with only 8000miles and mine turns out to be fine tuning the injectors. This is only after the carbs have been reworked and cleaned.

86 Honda Shadow VT1100 motorcycle idles rough

Clean the carbs, check the 2 rubber membranes, clean jets and air passages with thin wire and SYNC the carbs - with this, you will give the engine cylinders the same amount of fuel/air and the bike will run smoother.

Running rough and backfires

Yes tht could be the carburator since the dirt / fine rust tht settles at the bottom of the tank has found its way in to the carb.
Clean the carbs. and replace the in-line filter.
Water in gas could also be it, since water floats and you had reached the gas to reserve the water may have found its way to the carbs and thus the rough running and back firing .
