1992 Suzuki GSX 600 katana stalls when put in first gear

Recently bought my first bike, have been really enjoying it so far, had no problems at all until this morning. Bike started right up, I let it warm up, then hopped on and when i put it into first it stalled out, happened time after time, then I gave up and walked to work. Im hoping there is a simple solution to this, and would appreciate any help. thanks

Some bikes have a kickstand safty switch on them if your kickstand is down the bike will shut off in gear.

    I had the same problem with my GSX750F. I tried adjusting the clutch cable and that did not work. Thinking that the disks were not moving in the clutch, I was expecting the worst. Just got this bike and nothing is worse that finding an unexpected problem two days after you get it. I then read your post and it went right into gear. Felt like an idiot, but would rather feel dumb then have to put in a few hundred into a new clutch. Thanks so much for the post. Great Site!

As far as I know the fuel is vacuum fed to the carbs, did you take the fuel tank off & forget to connect all the pipes going to it? One is the vacuum pipe for the carbs.

99 gsx suzuki katana is oil cooled, does not use water. In front of your bike is a small radiator that's your oil cooler.

I recently bought a 1992 suzuki katana and when the bike is running all the lights come on but the brake light does not light up until brakelever is depressed ? Help .
Replace the bulb. It has two filiments that allows the brake light to illuminate seperate from the tail.

There should be a side stand switch, that when the side stand is down, and your clutch lever is out, the engine will stall.

sounds like 2nd gear failure,which is motor out and split to repair,go to your dealer and get them to test ride,

1992 GSX 600 F (Katana): I have a 92 katana and I just had the clutch fixed...
there is no reason for the bike not to start after fitting a new clutch as the clutch is only used for changing gears easier.its quite possible as the right + left hand fairings have been removed the shop may have disturbed some of the electrics under tank if this was removed to gain easier access check coils and wires to both switch blocks (handlebars) the tank can be eased off without removing the whole fairing to gain access.failing that check fuses in the right hand side panel near seat.

sounds like you need carb cleaning and servicing. as far as the trans is concerned, if it lunges forward when you put it in gear, the clutch is gone.
