The filter is located under the Yamaha plate on the right side of the engine. You have to remove the front cylinder exhaust pipe to get to it. The filter cover is behind the exhaust pipe. If you have boards instead of pegs on your bike you have to also take loose the right board and brake pedal assembly. You may be
able to get to the filter cover by just loosening the exhaust header and the muffler brackets so that the pipe can be moved aside so you can get an allen wrench into the bolts holding the cover on. There are five allen head bolts.
Once this cover is removed, you will have access to the filter plate holding everything in. Pay attention to how the filter comes out. The filter will fit back in either way, but it does make a difference for it to seal properly. Check the O-ring on the cover. Again, be careful to put the filter back in the same way it came out.

How many quarts oil should yamaha vstar hold

Check this site out:
http://forums.delphiforums.com/n/main.asp?webtag=yamaha1100&nav=start&prettyurl=%2Fyamaha1100%2Fstart&gid=2010825370

Stock oil filter installed: 3.17 quarts if no filter change - 3.3 quarts if filter changed

DO NOT OVERFILL! FYi - there's a site glass on the left side of the bike, under the left riders peg. Make sure the bike is level, oil is warm and bike is off - do not let the oil get over the upper mark... just under the upper mark is good, a little closer to middle is better.

Where does the oil come out of a 2004 Yamaha 1100 VStar Classic

Oil drain plug is located near the bottom of the engine, left side toward the front. The oil filter element is located on the right side of the engine under the cover toward the front. Changing the oil filter usually requires removal of the front exhaust pipe. There is an aftermarket filter relocation kit that replaces the filter element with a spin on filter that mounts on the front of the bike.

Change oil in 2004 Yamaha V Star 1100 Classic, procedure?

i think the oil filter is at the front behind a round finned cover, if you find the drain plug it should be right above it, it shoud tell you how much oil it takes right next to the filler
