Probably a sticking brake switch. most likely the one at the rear master cylinder.
Because the brake is being detected on, that is what is preventing the cruise control from engaging.

Cruise control not working in my 2009 Silverado. It went out gradually over the past several months, pretty much worked intermittantly.

cruise control module has failed. or if your brake lights are staying on, then brake light switch has failed and not allowing cruise to engage. Have someone stand behind truck and see if brakes are working properly, if not- replace brake light switch. if fine, then swap out cruise control module under hood.... prob find one at a junk yard.

Cruise control test proved a success; no cruise control

Check that your brake light bulbs are good (not blown) and that they operate correctly (stepping on the rear brake operates the bulb and it comes off after, same for the front.) Any malfunction of this system will prevent the cruise control from operating properly. Also some after market additional brake lights installed may do the same.

2003 oldsmobile alero v6 -- cruise control stopped working...The cruise on/of button lights up, the green light cruise indicator comes on in the dash panel, but cruise control does not engage when CST SET...

Try checking the small switch at the top of the brake pedal. There may be two one for brake lights and one for the cruise control. To ascertain what is what, pull one wire off and see if brake lights work. If not, then the other switch controls the cruise control disconnect and engage..I you have a DC test light check to see if power is on on both side of the switch with brake pedal up. If so, depress pedal and check power on the other side there should be none, if there is the switch is defective.

Cruise control will not engage even though the indicator on the Cruise on/off switch is illuminated.

Check that your brake lights are staying off. Brake light switch will put your cruise control into coast mode.

I have a 1988 kawasaki voyager 1200 the cruise no go od light ok

Check your brake light switches. If they are sticky and the brake lights stay on it won't let you engage the cruise control.

Cruise control will not engage

Hi, May be worth checking the switch at the brake pedal could just be that its sticking slightly, if you try the cruise control out again just flick foot under brake pedal and lift it up to make sure not holding any pressure on switch.

Cruise control fails to engage on '03 ford sport trac

Th is is how I fixed mine! Down on the brake pedal there is a small plastic box about 1 1\2 * 1 1\2 in size. It's called the brake stop light, I think. This part disengages the cruise when the brake is pressed. Not sure on it's other uses! Remove the clip from the part where it attatches the the pedal. For more working room you can remove the plastic keeper. The box has three keepers on it. Pry them out gently to remove the top. Two of the copper pieces inside will have contacts on them about the size of a match stick head. Take them out and clean them with an eraser. This solved my problem, I hope it solves yours.
