The main system fuse in not in the fuse panel but on the starter relay. This is a 30A fuse - there should also be a spare fuse on board the relay. The starter relay is located just above the top rear corner of the battery box.
Also inspect the connector plug to the relay itself - this frequently suffers from poor electrical connection as all system power (other than starter) goes through the red & red/white wires on this plug.

1987 toyota pickup lost all electrical except headlights

What works? Just headlights? Does anything electrical work that does not need the ignition switch to be in the on position? Possibly four way flashers, brake lights, horn, interior light, dash lights in instrument panel as well as headlights should all work without the key in the ignition and in the acc or on position. If this is what you have, then I would say you need to replace the ignition switch.
Hope this helps.

After replacing the ignition switch in my 2002 Honda Shadow Spirit headlight does not work, the other lights work, bike does start.

Either there is a problem with your starter button being dirty or broken ( a new problem. The starter button is designed to shut off the headlight light then power the starter solenoid. If the button is dirty or melted it could be the cause of the malfunction. Open the right switch assembly, clean and inspect the button. Or the problem is with the new contact base of the ignition you installed on the motorcycle. If you have the old contact base from the old ignition switch, you could try exchanging the two bases to see if the problem is the new contact base. To take off the base, insert the key , rotate the key to the on position, push in the three tabs on the contact base cover, and pull off the cover the contact base should come off with the cover.

My battery is good and I have 12V to the 30V main fuse, the 10A ingition fuse is good - but when I turn my key I get no poser to the headlight it like it is dead - could it be the ignition switch?

You may have a separate headlight fuse that is blown. You could have a dirty or broken contact base on your ignition switch that is not supplying power to that part of the bike. Or you could have a dirty or broken starter button . The starter button when pushed in half way, turns off the headlight. when it is pushed in all the way it engages the solenoid. If it the button try cleaning it. If that does not work you will have to replace the switch assembly.

93 shadow VLX 600, insert key, turn on ,all lights work except the headlight,(checked bulb-good), checked, starter , starter relay, battery, ignition, on switch, start switch, electrical connections, no...

You either have a broken/disconnected wire or you have a bad starter button. The starter button is a two position switch. Push it in half way and the headlight turns off. Push it in all the way and the solenoid engages the starter. The button is either dirty or broken.

Head lights will not come on when ignition key is turned to on

Could be the headlight fuse, a burnt out bulb (hook it directly to the battery to test it, but do not touch the glass with your fingers or anything oily) a dirty contact base on the ignition switch, a broken wire, or more likely a bad starter button. When you push the starter button in halfway it turns off the head light before it engages the starter. If it is damaged or dirty it can cause the headlight not to work. Try wiggling the button or take it apart and clean it.

My headlight is inop on my 1993 750 nighthawk, I suspect the problem to have something to due with the ignition system. I replaced the fuse and headlight and checked the high/low beam switch.

The two most likely culprits are the ignition switch and the starter button. The starter button, in the right handlebar switch assembly, performs two functions: cranks the electric starter - and, at the same time, turns off the headlight. Sometimes the electrical contacts inside the starter button burn out and fail to reconnect the headlight circuit when the button is released.
You can easily determine which one is the problem by simply checking for battery voltage at the headlight fuse. No voltage means the likely cause is the ignition switch. Also inspect the large plug on the bottom of the ignition switch. Sometimes the individual connectors will corrode, melt, or push themselves out of the plastic housing.
If there's voltage at the headlight fuse, then plan on replacing the right handlebar switch assembly.

I have no working headlights and the starter won't work

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

On a VT1100, primary suspect would be the START button switch (not the ignition/key switch). The start button switch is actually made up of 2 switches:
  • in normal condition it switches power to the headlight dimmer switch;
  • when starting, power is switch OFF to the headlights to ensure that the starter gets all the power from the battery.
Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

Bike wont start unless the headlight fuse is removed

Check the ignition switch.  The headlight power runs through the ignition switch, and this turns off the headlight when the starter is engaged, which provides full battery power to the starter without the load from the headlight.  If there is damage to the starter button, it may be shorting out and causing the problem.
