Bruce,

Most problems as you describe are due to the connections on the battery or starter being loose, corroded or dirty. Clean your connectors ( the big wire ones) at your battery, starter relay, starter, and ground (just follow the big wires from your battery terminals) and I'm sure you will find one or more connections along the way that are corroded or loose. Make sure the connections are tight, clean and free from corrosion and your timberwolf will crank over just fine.

SOURCE: yamaha timberwolf 4x4 carberator issues

Hi,

Firstly, if you are not a mechanical person you should never buy a vehicle that does not run.
However, here are some basic tests.
1. Connect a good battery.
2. Remove the spark plug.
3. Turn the motor using the starter motor or kick starter.
4. check for spark by inserting a new plug into the plug cap. (make sure the plug is grounded).

If the motor turns freely and there is spark, chances are good that the motor will run. This does not mean that the motor is in a good condition. Only with the motor running will you be able to know for sure.

You will now have to source a carb and fit it to the 4 wheeler.
Fitting the carb is not too difficult. Check that the intake manifold is not perished or torn, and remember to use the airfilter.

Enjoy the ride !

Jon

I found solution. In my case problem was with connection next to the small electronic module next to the gear wheel. It is module directing red light in proper 'P', 'R', 'N' and 'D' letter.

SOURCE: battery is fully charged on my 205 and yet it turns itself off

Can it be turn on when the device is attached to the cradle with electric supply?
If so, I think the battey is aged and it cannot be charged to the operating voltage to turn the device on.
A change of battery is required.
I had such a case recently.

My 1997 yamaha timberwolf 250

The cold weather may cause your Yamaha Timberwolf to experience hard starting, several months and no use, or a stale fuel supply. Start by replacing the spark plug, if the engine still does not fire up, clean the carburetor and make sure all the hoses are connected tightly with no air leaks. If none of these strategies work, the carburetor may need to be adjusted or replaced. You may want to take it to an experienced mechanic if you are unable to get the engine started.

1992 timberwolf put in new starter and battery the starter just spins when I try to start it I can pull start it turns over but can't get the starter to work

Take the starter out and bench test it to make sure that it's working properly before installing it into the TW. If you have the old one do a direct comparison between the two and measure to make sure there are no differences that would keep it from mating. The parts have to be nearly identical with precise measurements for it to do it's job.

You need to make sure you have a fully charged battery as well.

'94 Timberwolf 250 2X4 starts great when I have battery charger hooked up, coughs, backfires and dies when I unhook the charger. NEW Battery, fully charged, seems to crank well when charger is OFF, but...

Hey Ccp.. A new battery and it did not help the cranking issue?? hhmm... PLEASE take the battery and have the CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) checked... just because its new and has voltage does not mean its a "good battery"... It takes AMPERAGE to crank and run your machine.. (*see 35 amp fast charge!!)..Autozone, O'reilly's, a battery shop can check the CCA... once you have MADE SURE the battery is good, then you can proceed to diagnosing the real issue...This is the procedure a professional mechanic takes..so do this first... once you have determined the battery is (good or you got a new one)..and ... once you have the machine running,,WITHOUT a charger hooked up.. time to check the output.. you should get 13.5+ volts at 3000+rpm.. if you are not getting 13.5+ volts, its time for electrical diagnosis...This manual should have all the electrical specifications needed to diagnose your issues...

If after market battery may not have enough cranking amps.Turn on lights an try to start.Lights go dim to off battery bad.If lights don't change it's starter. One bad cell in battery can mess with the power to turn starter enough.
