Ninja zx6 headlight problem

I have a 91 ninja zx6 and most of the time the headlight does not come on nor the high beam when the the switch is on. Sometimes the headlight will comm every once and a while, I don't think it is a blown fuse that I can tell, would any one have another idea of what the problem might be? thanks

Have a 91 Ford Explorer. Front headlights having issues. Good bulbs I believe. Sometimes when switching between high and low beams on the column, lights would go oput for a moment then back on....

Sounds like it has possibly got a defective multifunction switch,which is part of the turnsignal lever/high beam lever switch. Aside from physically diagnosing the circuit I would say replacing the multifunction switch may take care of your problem.

Hope this helps

You will need to replace the headlight switch, that would be fairly obvious wouldn't it?

NO LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS

I've never heard of a headlight relay but most bikes do have turn signal relays...but when my low beam went out it was because the filament burnt out and from your description you said that the high beam works. so you know that its not the starter push button contacts, which usually causes both headlights to not come on, so the only other possibilities is, #1 you have a broken wire going from the starter pb switch to dimmer switch or from dimmer to bulb socket, or the dimmer switch itself is bad. #2 a bad bulb. just check it right now with the key on for voltage in the dim position for 12volts, if you got the voltage then the bulb is bad. can you rate my answer. thanks.

Why wont the headlights won't go on

It can have a bad headlight switch, but most often it is a bad high beam switch on the floor.

Turn on the headlights and press the high-beam switch off and on a few times, if the headlights flash, flicker, or start working again then replace the high-beam/dimmer switch.

No power at the high/ low beam switch, so no head rear markers

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

On your concerns:
  • no headlight - check for +12 on blue wire from fusebox (preferably use a testlight rather than a voltmeter) to headlight switch; do the same to the blue / yellow wire from headlight switch to dimmer switch; the headlight switch is also responsible for switching the rear lights;
  • regulator connector - it is normal for the 3 yellow wires & the white wire to heat up as they pass the charging current to the battery and supply to the bike when running; cause of burning would be loose connection; it may be corrected by cleaning and tightening joint by crimping the female and force fit the male; a bit of electrical grease would be good;
  • wiring diagram - this version might be of help;
  • service manual - try here.
Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa

'91 Nissan low beam

What you have sounds like a Headlight SWITCH Problem, You can check the Fuse for them (DOUBTFULL) but its a Large one @ Power distribution Box Under Hood.

Headlights

The only thing that all of your problems have in common is the light switch and the dash wiring harness. The stereo is linked to the light switch because of it's illumination feature' You need to test the light switch with a test light by probing the wires at it's plug.

What would cause both low beam headlights to go out at the same time? i have replaced the headlights and they still dont work.

The headlight high/low beam switch assembly.96 Safari has the turn signal stem as the high/low beam switch.Removal of the steering wheel is necessary to get to the switch assembly for replacement.
