04 Honda Shadow 1100 wont crank. Horn works. Headlight works. Turn signals work. Headlight goes out when starter button is depressed. Started fine yesterday. Today starter button does nothing.

No slow crank. No clicking. No sound at all. Any ideas or suggestions? Please?

I believe you have a battery that is just about gone. My Indian Roadmaster requires quite a bit to start and when my battery was gone, everything worked except for the starter. No clicking ... nada. My headlight would turn off when I would hit the starter button as well. I replaced the battery and the world was good again. Pull your battery...and many places will check it out for you.

Thanks very much, Doc. I'll check the battery tomorrow.

This issue is resolved. The battery was fine. The problem was the starter switch, the black button on the right handlebar. The grease in the switch had turned to sludge and gunk with age. I cleaned it all up, lightly sanded the switch contact terminals and re-greased the moving parts very lightly. It cranks fine now. There's a good YouTube video explaining the procedure called, "Honda Shadow Sabre No Crank, No Start Fix." Another YouTube video describing the repair is, "SRMC How To Repair A Faulty Starter Switch."
    Happy Trails!

You might have to change the spark plugs or at least have them cleaned.

SOURCE: Starter will not turn over

I had this problem and had my vehicle towed to two different places and was out a lot of money to find out it was the key. The security code had reset itself and the explorer acted as if it were being stolen therefore not allowing it to start. It has to be fixed by an authorized Ford Dealership. No one else has the ability to fix it. I hope this helps you not to have to pay two machenics for one problem. Thanks

SOURCE: my 1997 honda accord wont start.....

Hi Matt

Follow the( + ) positive lead from the battery, to the starter, check the connections, if all OK, get someone to turn the ignition key to start, and give the starter a tap, on the selenoid, with a small hammer or a metal socket extension.

Good Luck !

Let me know the outcome !

Also a FixYa rating would be nice !

Have you tried checking the start button? I had mine overheat, and the button lost contact and mine wouldn't start. (Which can kill the light and ability to start)

There is one more fuse near the battery, check the starter switch on the handle bar if you have 12V coming in to the switch.

I have a 2005 Honda Sabre vt1100 turned off motorcycle, went back to start up...no headlight and will not start with ignition switch but you can push off and crank it..no blown fuses and everything else...

You have a dirty or broken starter button on the handle bar. The button is a two position switch that turns off the headlight so more juice goes to the starter and activates the solenoid to send power to the starter. If you work carefully you can take the switch apart and clean the button. If cleaning solution does not fix the short you will have to replace the right hand switch assembly to fix the issue.
