1991 Harley 833 sportster When trying to bypass the ignition switch, I was touching the wire for the ignition switch together an heard a pop come from the back by the battery. I left wires alone, plan on putting a new switch on. Where do I go from here to trouble shut the popping noise? @

THE PROBLEM IS RESOLVE, IT WAS THE GROUND WIRE FROM THE FIREWALL TO THE INTAKE MANIFOLD, ITS A BLACK 10 GAUGE BLACK WIRE FOR GROUND, IT WAS LOOSE.

If you've applied 12VDC to the solenoid and it does nothing, not even click, then the solenoid is toast!

have the wire replaced by a certified mechanic with oem replacement parts

since the check engine light comes on you should check the computer codes and see what needs attention

Running for five minutes sounds like something other than a security system problem (usually shuts off much earlier) but if that has been compromised it needs to be put back together or the trigger wire from the drivers door lock needs to be grounded.
I'd look to the throttle position sensor, map sensor, crank position sensor or the ballast resistor on the drivers fender. You need to do tests on those items as all influence the fuel management system after warm up. Test when it is cold and after it shuts off so you don't mistake a part malfunction only when hot. Hands on testing is the ONLY way to determine accurately exactly what is happening there. Anything else is an educated guess!!!
