SOURCE: 97 gmc pickup, 5.7 eng, fuel pump not operating,

What you need to do is check you fuel pressure. Go to a local auto parts store and buy a fuel injection pressure tester. The pressure fitting is on the top of the motor its a 3/8 ish sized metal line and has a screw on fitting like a tire valve does. This line comes up from the back of the motor to the right of the distributor and goes down into the intake. Make sure to have a rag handy to catch the fuel seepage. After you connect the pressure tester turn the key on and off three times and read the gage you should have atleast 58 pounds of pressure. If you have 56 pounds it won't run because the fuel injectors are a poppit valve style and need atleast 58 pounds of pressure to operate.

When i turn the key on the fuel pump don't run why?

There should be battery voltage at the fuel pump. Check the battery voltage at the fuel pump relay to be sure that there is power coming from the battery. Check voltage at fuel pump fuse.

If oil pressure sending unit is bad will it stop fuel pump from working on a 2000 blazer

You should never try a pump without it being in fuel. It uses fuel for lubrication when it is running. If the vehicle doesn't start at all when you first crank it over it is not the oil pressure sender. If you just put the pump in you might want to turn the key off and on several times to cycle the pump then try to start it. If it doesn't start then check fuel filter or check fuel pressure at fuel rail in engine compartment. Is fuel pump cycling at all when the key is turned on? There is a problem with ignition switches on some of these blazers.

Starting problem think it is fuel filter but not sure have blown filter out twice but problem keeps occuring would it be the pump? once it starts it runs well. Its a mitsubishi triton dual cab ute mk 2003...

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. Listen to hear if you can hear the fuel pump kicking on when you first turn the key. You should hear a humming sound for a second or two. If you do, it is working, If not, it is not working. If so, check your fuel pump fuse, relay, and shut off button if you have one. It could also be bad fuel injectors. You can pour fuel into the intake, if it starts, you have a fuel issue. If it doesn't, it shouldn't be fuel related then. If these all check out, if you don't have inside power, it is a connection problem with the battery or a bad battery. If you have power and there is a clicking sound, clean the battery terminals and post, check the connection. Make sure the battery is good. If you turn the key and there is nothing, you have a bad starter or starter solenoid. Check your ignition fuse also. If the starter is not getting the correct amount of power from the battery, it won't start. Make sure the alternator isn't draining the battery as well.

How do you know if the fuel pump or just the strainer is bad? i've had to "prime" the fuel pump (turn key forward) for sveral months now in order for the car to start if i dont, then im stuck...

I personally don't think its either. Do this for a living. You have an electric fuel pump and in most cases if they go bad it just plain doesn't work. If it was the strainer you would have problems with fuel pressure while running at all times. As far as having to "prime" the system you could be looking at a loss of pressure somewhere but sounds to me more like a relay or an electrical problem. What I am saying is that as you turn the key to "prime" it, you are maybe not priming it and its more of a hit or miss on the electrical problem. I would check to make sure your fuel pump relay is working. It should engage for about 5 seconds after you turn the key. You can feel if it is engaging by touching it when someone turns the key. Also there may be an ECM relay thats not engaging at all times. Are you able to hear the pump turn on when you turn the key? If yes when it will not start is there power (electrical pulse) on the injectors when it won't start? I would just hate for you to drop the gas tank for no reason and pay for a pump for no reason. Pumps are bad or not bad. Work or doesn't work in 99 percent of the cases. Fuel pressure doesn't change that much either. If there is a blockage it's there or not. Just my opinion and I hope it helps. Good luck.

Vehicle starts runs for 2 seconds then shuts off 2006 santa fe 4 cyl standard, not the battery started multiple times and shuts off after 2 seconds every time what is it?

Possibly a weak or dead fuel pump. Try disconnecting the fuel line where it enters the fuel rail ( the metal tube that the injectors are attached to.) Have someone turn the key to the "RUN" position, (not "START") a few times and observe the fuel flow. If it appears weak, then you probably have a bad pump. Be sure to capture the fuel that spills out and DO NOT attempt this while the engine is hot. Altenatetively, you can have someone turn the key "ON" and off a few times while you listen for the humming sound of the pump at the fuel tank. But just because you can hear a humming sound doesn't always mean the pump is operating to capacity. If this doesn't help, reply bvack and we can go from there. Good luck!

I think my fuel pump is bad . It acted like it ran out of gas , and now it want start. I can not hear fuel pump running when I turn the key on . Help

Hello and welcome to FixYa!
Try to loosen the bolt on the fuel rail then turn on the ignition but don't crank the engine. If the fuel doesn't flow then it's definitely a bad fuel pump which will surely require replacement.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

IT WONT START..it will start if sprayed with starter fluid with it being on jumoier cables but then dies

sounds stupid as it may but the oil pressure sensor needs to be replaced. The fuel pump primes off that sensor to start up the engine. Once oil pressure is acheived the computer turns on the fuel pump relay to take over the pump

2003 VOYAGER..TURNED KEY AND WON'T START...JUST DROVE IT AN HOUR AGO...DOESN 'T CLICK OR MAKE ANY NOISE WHEN TURNING THE KEY..ALL THE NORMAL LIGHTS COME ON..SEEMS LIKE THE BATTERY IS GOOD?

Sounds like a bad starter. You might get it to start if you tap on the starter with a small hammer or a wrench while someone turns the key for you. If this makes it start, replace the starter.

Can the truck start up with a jump?

If the truck can start with a jump then check the voltage at the battery posts.

After warm up (10 minutes), it should read 13.8-14.6V

Some part store can do a diode check on the alternator for internal defect/short/bad diode/ripple voltage.

Check for spark on the plugs.

With key on (do not turn),listen for the fuel pump rotation noise.

Check the fuel pump relay or security system fuel cut off
