Hi, Al I would really love to help you with your bike question but due to the magnitude of yesterday's solar flare the batteries in my crystal ball are dead and my mental telepathy headset circuitry was melted. SOURCE: I can fully charge the Chair and my battery lights

It sound like your batteries need to be replaced. how old are they? The battery life eventually dwindles down to almost nothing it says its full because it is full to its capacity however it's capacity has depleted.

The one minute connection to the other car has nothing to do with the condition of the battery in the KIA. Check with the dealer to see if the car has a software recall.

Battery draining when lights are on

Sounds like the headlights are either pulling more current than the stator can provide(doubtful) or you have something bad(regulator or stator) that needs attention. Either way - the bike is built to have the headlight ON all the time it is running. Check to make sure that your battery terminals/cables are GOOD AND TIGHT and get out a volt meter. Put the meter on the battery with the bike off. Start it. Check to make sure the voltage goes up - if it does not - the bike is not charging.

Installed a new battery on my 99 fxr at 200 miles it died wont hold a charge same thing hapend on previous batery

Hi Joe, perform the following tests:
1. Fill acid type batteries to proper levels.
2. Charge battery overnight at 1-2 amps you need 12.5 volts or better after charging.
3. Hook up battery positive cable, then with your multimeter on the milliamp scale connect one lead to the negative battery post and the other lead to the ground cable. Meter should read 3 milliamps or less, 10 milliamps with a radio, 15 milliamps with radio and CB. If your meter reads higher you need to isolate the circuit by pulling fuses and circuit breakers one at a time and observe meter for drop in aprerage then get out your test light and track down the short in that circuit.
3. Make sure all connections are clean and tight especially the negative cable at both ends.
4. Hook up volt meter to battery and start engine, if meter falls below 9.5 v while cranking replace battery.
5. With engine running at 3600 RPM battery should read 14.3-14.7 volts if not continue tests.
6. Unplug voltage regulator from alternator at crankcase by front of primary cover.
7. To test voltage regulator go to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8EjV0IjW9Q
8. With ohm meter, one lead grounded, touch alternator pin meter should read infinity, if not replace stator.
9. With ohm meter, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read 0.1 to 0.2 ohms on 1989 and later models. 0.2 to 0.4 ohms 1988 and earlier models, if not replace stator.
10. With volt meter set on AC scale, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read
16 to 20 volts AC for every 1000 RPM'S 1989 and later and 19 to 26 volts AC for every 1000 RPMS. If not replace rotor.

My scooter runs out of power after about a mile with fully charged batteries. the company say's there is nothing wrong with it even though it's happened twice in six months. it is only six months old. they...

They are wrong to say leave it on charge and charge everytime you use it.

Only charge it when the battery meter is below half way and it should only take 4-6 hours to charge.

You may have a problem with your charger. Get them back as it is still under warranty.

Shop rider sovereign voltage indication. Brand new fully charged

hi Richard,

Does the scooter actually lose power after the 3 leds show ?

If it is losing power then a suggest to try some other batteries to confirm dodgy batteries, check the terminal connections etc.

If it does not lose power then the volt meter is at fault, if you can check the voltage before riding then after it shows only 3 leds , if there is a big drop, check the charger first to make sure the batteries are getting fully charged.

GeWiz.,

Charging system Question

This is within "normal ranges" however it is an indication of wear on your alternator. If you start seeing a slow but steady decrease in your voltage it is probably time to check out the charging status of the alternator on your vehicle.
