My car won't start. It is a '92 Geo Tracker. The instruments light up and it starts at times. I took battery terminals off and cleaned them but it still won't start. A mechanic friend said he bypassed the clutch switch and it started for him, without stepping on clutch, but now it won't start for me, again. I don't know what to do and I can't afford to take it to a shop at this time, because I spent a lot recently on the breaks and I am struggling to pay my bills before a trip that I am goingon in 2 weeks, with my mother.
Could be lots of things.

Take the battery off and have it bench tested, then if this is not the problem, take the starter off and have it bench tested. Remove one plug, geround it to the car and see if you are receiving any spark, have the timing checked, unfornately, a lot of things can be the cause of a car not sarting, its simply a trial and error process, it could also be a clogged fuel filter or injectors.
Sounds like the starter motor solenoid is defective replace it or the whole starter
