This can have some reasons:
1 clogged carburettors. Too less fuel means a hard start.
2 Worn spark plugs
3 Loss of compression... On a 2-stroke, measuring compression is not an exact science. Have throttle wide open. No spark plugs, check compression on all cylinders. They should be all within 1bar from eachother...

If the bike has sat for a long period of time without being run - the gas that is sitting in the carb(s) will shellac.. Then the carb(s) would need to be cleaned and "rebuilt"..

Remove and clean the carb. Sitting around can let the gas evaporate. This leaves a varnish residue in the carb. Remove the carb then remove the float bowl. Use a spray carb cleaner to spray into the jets and carb circuits. Remove the throttle screw and air screw and spray into the screw holes. The low speed idle circuit is the problem so concentrate on the air screw hole. Put both screws back where they came from and turn each until it LIGHTLY seats. Now back each screw one and one half turns. This is the factory setting. If the bike still does not want to idle, there is still some varnish or trash plugging up the idle circuit.

The 7.3 power stroke is not tha bad sheesh its actually pretty simple ok let me ask some questions here ok lets start simple when cranking does the needle on the tach move to approx. 5-600 ? if not more than likely its a cam sensor in which case there is actually a recall from ford they will fix it free.... yes I said free :) if not my second guess would be the Idm they were notorious for getting moisture in them btw IDM stands for injector driver module and you can find a good reman unit online for 200 "use google" if you have a friend with a high end scanner hook up and watch engine rpm there and also do a "buzz test" no buzz = idm fail another easy thing to do is open the drain on the fuel filter bowl and turn the key on and crank for 1 sec is there fuel shooting out ? if there isnt check fuel pump well that about covers it good luck please let us know whats up :)

Are you laying off the choke at any point? Full choke should only be used when starting a cold engine, it should run with no choke on full throttle. If there is not enough throttle i'd first try adjusting the tiny black screw on the carb beneath your air filter while you have it idling, letting the throttle have a little bit more room. If this doesn't work and you're running it properly than you may need to make some adjustments to the H L settings for your gas/air mix. This is also done while idling mind you and only with a clean air filter.
