How do I know there is enough oil in the tank?I can't see any when I look into the hole, but does this mean I need to put more in? Please help as I am learning and i don't know much but want to learn. Thank you.

depending on the make of car, some have a red antifreeze additive
put your finger in it and if it is slipper then it will be transmission oil
however the oil cooler for the transmission is in side one of the tanks ,unless the hole is in a tank then I would think that the fluid is coolant, check radiator level at the cap and if you need water then it will be the radiator coolant
check the transmission oil on the stick and if it is bright red or tan colour then the damage will be in the cooling system as water in oil tends to pink or grey

Engine oil is in the crankcase of the engine covered by an oil pan so I have no idea what engine oil tank you are referring to

Could be a couple of different things.

First off, check your oil level....is it correct? (I know, kinda stupid of me, but I had to ask)

Just because you have oil doesn't mean the oiling system is working.
On thing you can do is remove oil tank cap, using a flashlight look down into the tank and see if you can notice oil being pumped back into the tank.
Or, you can pull the oil sending unit and see it oil pumps out the hole when the engine runs (this WILL be messy!).

Or, pull the oil return line at the oil tank.
IF you pull the feed line by mistake, you'll know!
Oil will run out the tank fitting until the tank runs out of oil! (opps, wrong line!)
When you pull the return line, you should get just some residual oil out the tank fitting (and the line).
Put the end of the line in a container and see if oil squirts out when the engine runs.

If all the above indicate oil IS circulating, the oil sending unit itself might be bad. They do occasionally go out.

think you mean lower unit there will be two plugs one lower one uppertake them both out get a quart off lowermotor oil put the oil in lower hole and fill till the oil is coming out of the top hole then put the plug in the top hole then the lower plug you just need to fill till oil comes out of the top plug or hole good luck jeff

older Vespas without separate Oil-tanks need a premix of 1:50 oil in the gasoline - but yours is an automatic oil-mixer type.
check the oil-level-glass under the seat near the choke.
it must be full of oil - the oil tank can hold about 1 liter of 2-stroke oil. How much oil did you fill in?
Probably the previous owner removed the oil supply tube and filled always an oil-gasoline premix. You better ask him about it. If the tube was removed then there was no oil supplied to your engine and it got stuck and the engine bearings are blown.

Make sure you have enough oil in the engine. It might mean the oil pressure is low. It could mean to change your oil. It has many purposes. No matter what, you need to check all your oil components. If you need anything, please let me know. I am here to help.

The hole in the bar pad is the breather, it is quite normal for it to leak if the bar is removed, it consist of a role pipe and pipe inside the oil tank, there is nothing to worry about

The longest, and sometimes smaller in diameter of the two Fuel Lines, goes from the bottom of the carburetor, to the bottom of the tank. (The first line will need to be longer so that you can pull it all the way through to where you put gas in.) This so that you can easily attach the fuel filter. Then pull the Fuel Line back through the hole. Leave enough slack in this line so that the filter that attaches to the end will rest comfortably at the bottom of the tank. Cut off any excess line once you know that you have enough to reach the carburetor.

The other Fuel Line goes from the primer bulb to just inside the tank,(about a 1/2 inch). (Make sure that you get the right size fuel lines.) The plastic coupling goes on the end of this line, inside the tank. This keeps the line from pulling out of the tank.

(HINT): When feeding the Fuel Lines through the fuel tank holes, cut the lines at an angle. They will feed much easier into the holes. You can than cut them off square, once you know that you have enough to work with.

Three Fuel Line Installation: In this installation, the primer bulb is separate from the Carburetor.

The (1st) Fuel Line will be the longest, and sometimes smaller in diameter of the (3) Fuel Lines. It goes from the bottom of the carburetor, to the bottom of the tank. The (3rd) Fuel Line goes from the bottom stem of the primer bulb to the top of carburetor

CHECK THE OIL DESCRIPTION ON THE BOTTLE, IF IT READS SUITIBLE FOR PREMIX AND AUTOLUBE,THEN THE OIL WOULD BE FINE FOR EITHER USE, PREMIX SIMPLY MEANS YOU MIX IT WITH THE PETROL AND THE ENGINE IS LUBRICATED AS THE FUEL ENTERS THE CYLINDER IN AN ATOMISED STATE. AUTO LUBE YOU WOULD PUT THE OIL INTO A CONTAINER IE A STORAGE BOTTLE BUILT INTO THE MACHINE, LIKE THE LITTLE HOLE NEXT TO THE GAS TANK YOU DESRIBED AND THE OIL IS FED BY A PUMP AS THE ENGINE RUNS TO LUBRICATE THE ENGINE , I CAN ASSUME IF YOU HAVE A STORAGE BOTTLE NEXT TO YOUR GAS TANK WHICH HAS SOME DESCRIPTION OF ENGINE OIL THEN YOUR MACHINE IS A 2 CYCLE AND NOT A 4 CYCLE IMPORTANT DO NOT ALOW THIS OIL TO EMPTY AS YOU WILL HAVE TO BLEED THE SYSTEM TO REMOVE AIR AND ALLOW THE OIL THROUGH.

Hi,

Are you using the correct viscosity oil? - It is quite important that the oil is not too thick to freely flow. I am assuming that you are pushing down on the oil tank actuator cap to try and get the chain lubricated? (This is a manual process and does not lubricate the chain automatically on this saw)

Failing that, it sounds like there could be a blockage internally within the oil tank that needs to be cleared.

If this is the case, the user manual (http://dl.owneriq.net/5/5050c27f-7f11-43a6-9bb9-0d77109d285c.pdf) suggests contacting a repair centre.

You could always try removing the bar and chain and carefully working a small piece of wire into the lubricant holes to try and free any clogged up oil.
