Help My partners 1997 535 virago had a total electrical failure when checking it out at the road side i discovered the main fuse had blown and it looks like the battery had been running the bike till it completely drained.the bike was taken to lix toll garage who started to charge the battery but there was hardly any acid in it and it wouldn't charge so a new one was bought and fully charged but when fitted to the bike the battery is not charging with the motor running. Before the electrical failure my partner dropped the bike when a car pulled out in front of her before this happened she had rode 200 mile from home to Killin in scotland with no problem. I'm no expert but i was thinking when she dropped the bike could this have caused the fuse to blow and then as we continued on the run on just the battery till it died or maybe overloaded the regulator/rectifier, as i said the bike was running perfect until the accident or am i just looking at a coincidence factor

IT sounds like it is the pickups not working (.telling it to spark) if not then it will be CDI UNIT OR ENGINE GENERATOR COILS
SOURCE: Won't idle without choke
The pilot jet controls the air/gas fuel mix at idle . If the jet gets plugged up not enough gas gets to the emgine at idle. You will need to remove the carbs and float bowls and clean them, paying special attention to the pilot valve. Count the number of turns to remove the pilot screw and replace the same number of turns then turn counter clockwise 1/2 turn.
A “very helpful” rating for this answer? Thanks!

Hi and welcome to FixYa,
Charging problems could either be a stator issue or a failed rectifier/regulator combo. To check:
This of course presumes that the wiring, connectors, terminals have been checked, cleaned and tightened.
Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.
SOURCE: Yamaha TW 200 starts but won't run.
If the bike has sat for a long period of time without being run - the gas that is sitting in the carb(s) will shellac.. Then the carb(s) would need to be cleaned and "rebuilt"..
SOURCE: Can a voltage regulator/rectifier if not working
YES!

Symptoms:
Lights flickering at times and/or battery gets hot to the touch
Problem:
Reglator/Rectifier
When the regulator dies, it allows as much as 19 volts to appear across the battery. This is not good. It will cook the battery and the battery could even explode. Fuse can not stand up to this!
