What is the best way to clean the top of pistons on a 2002 Suzuki Intruder 1500?
My motorcycle is back firing, spiting and spuddering,Black smoke out of right muffler, running rich on front cylinder. We have cleaned the carbs, tired new coils, changed spark plugs and the EMU unit. Nothing is working

This could be any number of things. First consider the most obvious. Change the rear spark plug. Then check the compression in the rear cylinder. If compression is low, it could be a valve sticking or a piston ring wore or a hole in cylinder. If compress is alright, rebuild carbs. I would check out options in a row. I don't think it could be a be the stator or regulator. But it could be. Those would need to be checked out by dealer. Hope tis helps.
Black smoke is indicative of carbon or incomplete combustion caused by either poor ignition (weak spark) or too much fuel (choke setting). Check out these areas.
Hey, I have a 2000 Intruder 1500 as well and in the last week I have had the exact same problem and was thinking the same thing. I checked the front plug and it is pretty covered in black and changed both plugs. This did not help, still seemed like the front cylinder wasn't working just right. If you could let me know what you eventually find I would really appreciate it.
